It was deemed that he was no longer allowed to teach, and he finally had his say on the whole situation.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"659\" data-end=\"697\">Mr Povey was banned from teaching<\/h2>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Emotional Moment Convincing Student To Take Her Exams | Educating Greater Manchester\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/NQk4Wa2xpVU?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"699\" data-end=\"1066\">If you watched Educating Manchester, you\u2019ll remember Mr Povey as something of a TV favourite, a no-nonsense leader with plenty of heart.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"699\" data-end=\"1066\">But off camera, the school came under huge pressure to improve its stats, whether that was attendance, results, or overall performance. According to investigations, some of the decisions made during <a href=\"https:\/\/realitytvshrine.com\/2025\/09\/30\/the-shocking-real-reason-mr-povey-was-indefinitely-banned-from-teaching-after-educating-manchester\/\">his leadership crossed lines<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1068\" data-end=\"1504\">The Teaching Regulation Agency later ruled that records had been fiddled with, students had been &#8220;off-rolled,&#8221; and certain attendance marks weren\u2019t accurate.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1068\" data-end=\"1504\">All of this, they said, put students at risk and gave a false picture of how the school was doing. As a result, Mr Povey was handed a teaching ban. He and his brother Ross, who was assistant head at Harrop Fold, were both caught up in the ruling.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1506\" data-end=\"1794\">The ban meant Mr Povey\u2019s time in the classroom was officially over, at least for now.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1506\" data-end=\"1794\">While he could technically apply to have it lifted in the future, the decision left many shocked, especially people who had seen him champion kids who didn\u2019t always get a fair shot in the system.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1506\" data-end=\"1794\">He was always egging kids on to push themselves and do better. Speaking during one Educating Greater Manchester episode, Mr Povey shared an emotional moment with one student who was worried about passing her exams. Mr Povey responded to the ban. He said he was &#8220;deeply disappointed&#8221; by the decision but rejects the most serious allegations.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"trc_header_ext\">&#8220;Where administrative mistakes were made on my watch, I take full responsibility. But I will never accept that I was involved in any deliberate plan to off-roll or to change attendance data,&#8221; he said.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p data-start=\"1506\" data-end=\"1794\">He defended his years in education, saying his motivation was never about statistics or looking good on paper: &#8220;My whole career in education was about supporting kids from tough backgrounds and helping them develop their self-belief and resilience, it was never about results or how data looked.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1506\" data-end=\"1794\">Mr Povey also spoke about the duty of care he says is owed to pupils: &#8220;Every leader, every teacher, every single person who works in schools has a duty of care to every child, with all their brilliance and all their complexities\u2026 they are the only ones who matter in all of this.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1506\" data-end=\"1794\">He and his brother, Ross, are reportedly considering an appeal, arguing that the panel relied heavily on hearsay evidence and that parts of the decision are problematic.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1506\" data-end=\"1794\">Per <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ladbible.com\/news\/uk-news\/drew-povey-educating-manchester-headteacher-response-905768-20241108\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">LadBible<\/a>, Mr Povey\u2019s barrister, Andrew Faux, said he&#8217;s now considering appealing the decision at the high court.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1506\" data-end=\"1794\">He said: &#8220;The panel&#8217;s decision was very disappointing and relied to a troubling extent on hearsay evidence.
