Pop Star Academy: Katseye has come under serious backlash for allegedly “lying” to the contestants in the show, with one cast member even quitting because of it.<\/p>\n

So, where exactly did the allegations come from, and what have the other cast members on the show said about it?<\/p>\n

Well, firstly if you’re not as up to speed on what actually happens in the show, the series seeks out to find the newest members of the K-Pop group, Katseye.<\/p>\n

The process started with over 120,000 applicants, which get narrowed down to only six girl who will make it into the group.<\/p>\n

However, the series garnered backlash as apparently the contestants weren’t told that they’d be up for elimination as they faced votes from the public.<\/p>\n

For weeks when the series first started, the contestants in Pop Star Academy: Katseye thought they were simply in training for the group.<\/p>\n

However, when episode six rolled around they discovered that four of them would be eliminated via a public vote, and were informed by a robotic voice if they’d made it or not.<\/p>\n

During the open voting window, the contestants on the show were asked to choose five of their co-stars who would be in their “ideal debut group.\u201d<\/p>\n

Text across the screen read: \u201cThe contestants never expected to watch their answers while sitting next to each other.\u201d<\/p>\n

During episode seven, one contestant called Lexi actually ended up quitting the show because she felt so deceived by what she was asked to do.<\/p>\n

She explained: “The whole program changed so much when it went public and when it turned into, like, this show, turning us against each other.<\/p>\n

“And that was something I really didn\u2019t like personally. It felt really wrong, and I was really upset.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another Pop Star Academy: Katseye cast member added: “From the start, we didn\u2019t know this was a survival show. It was supposed to be training \u2013 pick the girls, prepare for debut, and debut.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat embodies K-pop and a group is their bond and their trust in each other, and what survival shows do is they put contestants against each other. I don\u2019t believe in putting people against each other to form a group.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another explained: “I personally was told in that interview that this was not gonna be seen and I felt so, like, betrayed.\u201d<\/p>\n
