{"id":25425,"date":"2025-07-10T11:10:22","date_gmt":"2025-07-10T10:10:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/realitytvshrine.com\/?p=25425"},"modified":"2025-07-10T17:15:55","modified_gmt":"2025-07-10T16:15:55","slug":"buzzfeed-called-out-for-saying-itd-give-love-island-usas-chelley-a-knuckle-sandwich","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thetab.com\/realityshrine\/2025\/07\/10\/buzzfeed-called-out-for-saying-itd-give-love-island-usas-chelley-a-knuckle-sandwich\/","title":{"rendered":"Buzzfeed called out for saying it&#8217;d give Love Island USA&#8217;s Chelley a &#8216;knuckle sandwich&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Buzzfeed Tasty is currently getting major backlash from<a href=\"https:\/\/realitytvshrine.com\/tag\/love-island-usa\/\"> Love Island USA<\/a> viewers for a now deleted social post in which the company said it&#8217;d give Chelley a &#8220;knuckle sandwich.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The company did a series of &#8220;what I&#8217;d make&#8221; posts for the Love Island USA cast, with Chelley&#8217;s featuring &#8220;a bowl of fruit, goldfish (in case Ace gets fussy)&#8221; and a &#8220;knuckle sandwich.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The post has since been deleted, however Buzzfeed Tasty and Buzzfeed posted an apology statement about their post regarding Chelley.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"reddit-embed-bq\" style=\"height:500px\" ><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/LoveIslandITV\/comments\/1lvya8j\/excuse_me\/\">Excuse me ???<\/a><br \/> by<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/user\/just-here-2talkk\/\">u\/just-here-2talkk<\/a> in<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/LoveIslandITV\/\">LoveIslandITV<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/embed.reddit.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"UTF-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>The company wrote in a now deleted post: &#8220;We published a version of this post earlier today that was meant to ruffle some feathers \u2014 all in good fun about a TV show we collectively can&#8217;t get enough of \u2014 but one of our jokes missed the mark.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We referenced a &#8216;knuckle sandwich&#8217; in our slide about Chelley, and though it was meant to be cheeky, it landed with racial undertones that we didn&#8217;t intend (but should&#8217;ve seen coming).<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Tasty is meant to be a joyful, welcoming space, and this post didn&#8217;t reflect that. As massive Love Island fans, we took it down, talked it through, and reworked it to make sure the jokes didn&#8217;t come at anyone&#8217;s expense.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Chelley&#8217;s team released their own statement in response to both the original social media post about Chelley and the apology Buzzfeed posted.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_25449\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-25449\" style=\"width: 1200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-25449\" src=\"https:\/\/realitytvshrine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Ellie-New-Featured-Images-81.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"630\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.realitytvshrine.com\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Ellie-New-Featured-Images-81.png 1200w, https:\/\/cdn.realitytvshrine.com\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Ellie-New-Featured-Images-81-300x158.png 300w, https:\/\/cdn.realitytvshrine.com\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Ellie-New-Featured-Images-81-1024x538.png 1024w, https:\/\/cdn.realitytvshrine.com\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Ellie-New-Featured-Images-81-768x403.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-25449\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Via Peacock<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Her team wrote: &#8220;On July 9th, 2025, Buzzfeed Tasty posted a collaboration Instagram post with Buzzfeed. The post was a hypothetical idea of what &#8216;they&#8217; would make for breakfast for the islanders.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The team continued: &#8220;It is not only disturbing, disgusting, and unacceptable. It is the harsh reality that implicit biases can be rooted in anti-blackness, misogyny, prejudice, violence, etc.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Furthermore, not only was the post deleted but another post was made with a condescending message and tone of no accountability.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They mentioned that &#8216;We referenced a \u2018knuckle sandwich\u2019 in our slide about Chelley, and we thought it meant to be cheeky, it landed with racial tones that we didn\u2019t intend (but should have seen it coming).&#8217; This post with this statement was also deleted.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_25450\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-25450\" style=\"width: 1200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-25450 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/realitytvshrine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Ellie-New-Featured-Images-82.png\" alt=\"Buzzfeed Chelley\" width=\"1200\" height=\"630\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.realitytvshrine.com\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Ellie-New-Featured-Images-82.png 1200w, https:\/\/cdn.realitytvshrine.com\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Ellie-New-Featured-Images-82-300x158.png 300w, https:\/\/cdn.realitytvshrine.com\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Ellie-New-Featured-Images-82-1024x538.png 1024w, https:\/\/cdn.realitytvshrine.com\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Ellie-New-Featured-Images-82-768x403.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-25450\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Via Peacock<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>They added: &#8220;Team Chelley will not tolerate this level of disrespect, anti-blackness, prejudice, and misogyny. Furthermore, we will not accept a narrative in which Chelley deserves violence. No person deserves that. Not Chelley or any of the islanders.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;However, the parties responsible for this post must write a sincere apology and take steps of accountability to ensure this does not happen in the future. It is the least that can be done to to uphold their statement of &#8216;&#8230; helping us do better!'&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson from Tasty told Reality Shrine: &#8220;We recently published a post that was offensive and did not meet Tasty\u2019s and BuzzFeed\u2019s high level of editorial standards.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The post has been removed and we are taking steps to ensure this does not happen again.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reality Shrine has reached out to Buzzfeed for comment.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><i data-stringify-type=\"italic\">For all the latest reality TV cast member news,
