It wasn&#8217;t about jumping into something right away. I actually waited for Adan to be ready for over a year, and I would have kept waiting if I felt like there was still hope.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As someone on the autism spectrum, I&#8217;ve learned to be direct about what matters to me. That sometimes means diving into deeper topics earlier than most.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m still learning how to say things the right way, but one thing I&#8217;ve always been is real. I don&#8217;t play games or pretend to be someone I&#8217;m not. I&#8217;ve learned that being upfront can save both people a lot of time and heartache.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I know many people, especially in the autism community, identify as asexual, and I admire and respect them deeply, but that&#8217;s not me.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;And from the very beginning, I wanted to be sure my potential date is not asexual. I didn&#8217;t bring it up to pressure anyone, I brought it up because I care! I&#8217;m still learning how to say these things in the best way, and yeah, sometimes I don&#8217;t get it perfect, but I&#8217;m trying.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;For me, being honest early on about what I value in a relationship makes sense! Looking back, I see that Adan did talk about his values, and I missed some of those cues.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;That&#8217;s on me, I take responsibility for that! For me, intimacy doesn&#8217;t require a wedding ring, it requires love, trust, and honesty.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I know that not everyone agrees, and that&#8217;s okay, we&#8217;re allowed to have different values.
