While some reality TV shows, such as Love Is Blind<\/a>, do pay participants to appear in the show, I’ve been dying to know whether the cast of Love on the Spectrum<\/a> gets paid for their time.<\/p>\n

Luckily for us, the producer of Love on the Spectrum, Cian O’Clery, revealed the truth behind whether the cast gets paid for being on the show in an interview with Parade<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The producer confirmed that whilst none of the cast members are paid for being on the show, all of their dates and transportation are taken care of, commenting: “People aren\u2019t left out of pocket by being part of the experience, that\u2019s all I can say.\u201d<\/p>\n

A casting call from 202o for Love on the Spectrum posted on Backstage<\/a> also confirmed that cast members would not be paid.<\/p>\n

It stated: “As we are a documentary series, we cannot pay for participation, but we do cover any meals and transport costs incurred. We work around people’s schedules to make it work.”<\/p>\n

As for who\u2019s in charge of planning the wholesome dates on Love on the Spectrum, it\u2019s all arranged by both the cast and producers.<\/p>\n

Cian explained: \u201cWe talk to the participants all the time about what they\u2019re interested in, what they want to do and what they think would be a nice date. Then we work together to find something that might be suitable and go from there.\u201d<\/p>\n

The most important thing is that the cast feel comfortable, with Cian explaining: \u201cThey\u2019re always the ones who are leading the experience. We\u2019re not saying to them, \u2018You\u2019re going to do this and you\u2019re going to go here.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

While a lot of reality TV shows book their cast through an external casting team, it turns out that the producers for Love on the Spectrum help with the process themselves.<\/p>\n

Cian explained: \u201cWe develop relationships with various organizations, support groups, communities and individuals, and just put the call out.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe send out flyers that explain who we are and what we\u2019re doing, and if you\u2019re interested in meeting with us and talking about it, get in touch. Lots and lots of people write in.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued: \u201cThe more popular the show gets, the more folks reach out directly\u2014a good thing, because it shows that people love the show and that they want to be part of it.\u201d<\/p>\n

He explained how they work out who they want to ask to return to the show and who they want as new cast members, saying: \u201cThen we try to work it out in terms of wanting to represent a diverse group of people.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe people we choose to be the main participants can be from anywhere. Once we decide on someone, that\u2019s when we start to look for potential matches for them, and we kind of go with it that way.\u201d<\/p>\n
