Fans are wondering what happened to one of the Discovery show&#8217;s crew members, Freddy Maugatai. While some Deadliest Catch fans fear that Freddy may have died in 2023, that certainly isn&#8217;t the case. He&#8217;s been back and forth as a cast member on the show, but thankfully the fan favorite is still alive today.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Given the <a href=\"https:\/\/realitytvshrine.com\/tag\/discovery-channel\">Discovery Channel<\/a> show&#8217;s name, there&#8217;s a whole lot of danger that comes with appearing on Deadliest Catch Crab fishing in the Bering Sea is no easy task. But, Freddy is certainly one of the show&#8217;s most memorable cast members who quite literally throws himself into every task with enthusiasm &#8211; and without fear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Freddy Returns to Deadliest Catch\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/UtUAvZv761Y?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Deadliest Catch crew worried Freddy &#8216;almost died&#8217;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When Freddy Maugatai was a cast member of <a href=\"https:\/\/realitytvshrine.com\/tag\/deadliest-catch\">Deadliest Catch<\/a> in 2013, one instance had his fellow crew terrified that he could die.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Crabbing aboard the F\/V Wizard with Captain Monte &#8216;Mouse&#8217; Colburn in season 9, the crew noticed something floating in the Bering Sea which turned out to be a dead walrus.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Due to the value of the walrus, which the captain described as a &#8220;Bering Sea trophy,&#8221; the crew attempted to retrieve it from the ocean.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>NO WAY:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/realitytvshrine.com\/discovery\/deadliest-catchs-victory-crashes-although-captain-bob-knows-how-to-steer\">Deadliest Catch\u2019s Victory crashes although Captain \u2018knows how to steer\u2019<\/a><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The team struggled to pull the walrus&#8217; body from the sea, so Freddy took matters into his own hands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He jumped off the boat into the sea and climbed on top of the walrus, terrifying his crewmates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The captain shouted that Freddy was a &#8220;maniac,&#8221; adding: &#8220;Don&#8217;t do this to me.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The show&#8217;s narrator explains that if he didn&#8217;t get out of the water in 60 seconds, hypothermia could set in and he could die.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thankfully, Freddy didn&#8217;t die.
