90% of the culture section is reviews of events and performances taking place at your university. Your main haunts will be your campus or city theatre and local gig venues.

Other events you can cover are comedy nights, art exhibitions and classical concerts. Be opinionated. If you’ve been to an exhibition, try writing ‘Ten things to see at…’ rather than an essay on brush techniques and framing.

A weekly guide to what’s on gets thousands of readers. All you need is a sentence or two on each event.
If you are writing previews, make sure they aren’t just adverts for events. Get an interview and tell your readers why an event is worth them going to. If Zane Lowe is DJing in your Union, students will already know who he is and what stuff he plays. Give them something extra by talking to him or the promoter and finding out if there are any surprises in store.

Lastly, a special note on films. We don’t want reviews of the latest blockbusters. There’s no point – no one reads them. Do, however, cover film releases if they’re linked to your uni.
