The ending of The Perfect Lie on Netflix<\/a> finally exposes Babette as the culprit behind Evert\u2019s murder, but the full extent of her plan is even more disturbing in Saskia Noort\u2019s original novel, The Dinner Club. <\/span><\/p>\n

Much like the 2004 book, the new TV show centres around a house fire that tears apart a group of tight-knit friends, who all have secrets of their own. Only Evert (Edwin Jonker) dies in the fire, while his wife Babette (Noortje Herlaar) and their two children Beau (Bryson Kroonen) and Luuk (Henk Courbois) survive. <\/span><\/p>\n

Initially, police believe Evert was to blame. Through their investigation and forensics, they reveal to the group that their findings suggest Evert \u201cstarted the fire himself\u201d by using gasoline to stoke the blaze in various spots throughout the house. And they also reveal that the family had been drugged with benzodiazepines to sedate them.<\/span><\/p>\n
