Carry-On<\/a> is the biggest movie on Netflix<\/a> right now, a festive thriller featuring Taron Egerton as the lead role that’s set in an airport.<\/p>\n

He plays a young airline security guard who gets blackmailed into smuggling a dangerous package onto a plane on Christmas Eve.<\/p>\n

It’s had some brilliant reviews, and the film’s<\/a> success is partly down to the work that was put in to make it seem as realistic as possible.<\/p>\n

The actors had to do some real TSA security training to find out what it’s actually like to work for an airport’s police force.<\/p>\n

TSA stands for Transportation Security Administration, and they are the officials who screen you and put your belongings through the scanner.<\/p>\n

“We all wanted this to feel incredibly realistic, like the events of this movie could happen to any of us on any given day at any airport,” the director told Netflix’s Tudum<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“They put our actors through proper TSA training before we shot the movie, and they were on set to advise us if anything didn’t look realistic.”<\/p>\n

The actors were guided by security specialist Dr Erroll G. Southers, who was the head of Homeland Security and Intelligence for the Los Angeles World Airports Police Department.<\/p>\n

He taught them all the TSA lingo, the areas of the airport where a security guard like Ethan would be allowed to go, and the relationship between the different airport police officials.<\/p>\n

“I was a technical adviser that was brought on for situational accuracy as it related to the agencies that are at an airport so that when actors were saying things, they were realistic and authentic,” he said.<\/p>\n

Southers explained that in California, you have to\u00a0go through a course to be an airport police officer that\u2019s separate from the course to be a police officer.<\/p>\n

“So it\u2019s very unique\u2026 I think if you can portray that in a film like this one, it becomes even more real, because a person like me watching will say, \u2018Wow. They really did their homework’.”<\/p>\n
