{"id":8255,"date":"2026-08-26T15:59:08","date_gmt":"2026-08-26T14:59:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thetab.com\/filmshrine\/?p=8255"},"modified":"2026-08-26T15:59:08","modified_gmt":"2026-08-26T14:59:08","slug":"three-major-changes-in-avengers-endgame-encore-and-why-its-required-viewing-for-doomsday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thetab.com\/filmshrine\/2026\/08\/26\/three-major-changes-in-avengers-endgame-encore-and-why-its-required-viewing-for-doomsday\/","title":{"rendered":"Three major changes in Avengers: Endgame Encore, and why it&#8217;s &#8216;required viewing&#8217; for Doomsday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Avengers: Endgame is releasing in cinemas this September with a new version called Avengers: Endgame Encore, but if you were expecting Marvel to bring back loads of deleted scenes or create a much longer cut, the runtime suggests otherwise.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a class=\"body-link css-1gyyefe emevuu60\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amctheatres.com\/movies\/avengers-endgame-encore-82342\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-cy=\"styled-link\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.amctheatres.com\/movies\/avengers-endgame-encore-82342\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"AMC Theatres\" data-node-id=\"13.1\">AMC Theatres<\/a>, Endgame Encore runs for 185 minutes, compared with 181 minutes for the original 2019 release. So it is just four minutes longer.<\/p>\n<p>That does sound underwhelming, but there is actually a reason to pay attention to those four minutes. <a href=\"http:\/\/thetab.com\/filmshrine\/tag\/marvel\/\">Marvel<\/a> is using the new material to connect Endgame with <a href=\"http:\/\/thetab.com\/filmshrine\/tag\/avengers\/\">Avengers<\/a>: Doomsday, which arrives in December.<\/p>\n<h2>Joe Russo says Endgame Encore is &#8216;required viewing&#8217;<\/h2>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Avengers Endgame: Encore | Official Trailer | In Theaters Sep 25\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/L2NAh3CIdig?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Speaking to <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Fandango\/status\/2092288506735284245?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" data-url=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Fandango\/status\/2092288506735284245?s=20\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-article-category=\"entertainment\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-hawk-tracked=\"hawklinks\" data-mrf-link=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Fandango\/status\/2092288506735284245?s=20\">Fandango<\/a>, Joe Russo explained exactly why Marvel is bringing Endgame back before Doomsday. He said, \u201cIt&#8217;s gonna connect the story of the two movies. There&#8217;s a natural progression from Endgame into Doomsday, which is also inclusive of all the other stories that have been playing out. I think it&#8217;s required viewing for following the story in Doomsday.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Anthony Russo added, \u201cIf you saw Endgame when it was originally released, you couldn&#8217;t see this coming.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Joe Russo had already talked about this idea earlier. Speaking at the Sands Film Festival via <a class=\"body-link css-1gyyefe emevuu60\" href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2026\/04\/joe-russo-avengers-endgame-doomsday-sands-1236865209\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-node-id=\"31.5\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2026\/04\/joe-russo-avengers-endgame-doomsday-sands-1236865209\/\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"Deadline\">Deadline<\/a>, he said, \u201cIt\u2019s an opportunity to create a bridge from Endgame to Doomsday in a very unique way, and because the movie was so successful, we have an opportunity to re-release it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He continued, \u201cYou don\u2019t always get the chance to re-release because it costs money, so the fact that we can enhance the story of Doomsday by bridging it to Endgame and these characters that we worked with for years that we love so much, and continue their story. It\u2019s a really unique opportunity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Russo has also described the new material as a \u201ccritical companion story\u201d to Doomsday.<\/p>\n<p>The exact content of those four minutes has not been officially revealed. That could make the premium-format screenings particularly interesting for fans who want to see everything Marvel is showing before December.<\/p>\n<p>The premium screenings will also include a special end tag connected to Doomsday. It&#8217;s been described as an exclusive look rather than a conventional post-credit scene.<\/p>\n<p>Marvel has not revealed which characters appear or what happens in the footage.<\/p>\n<h2>Endgame Encore appears to look different too<\/h2>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\u2018AVENGERS: ENDGAME ENCORE\u2019 has a different color grading than \u2018AVENGERS: ENDGAME\u2019<\/p>\n<p>(\ud83d\udcf8: <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/MarvelSpoiler?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@MarvelSpoiler<\/a>) <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/X9TBxKIumi\">pic.twitter.com\/X9TBxKIumi<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Cosmic Marvel (@cosmic_marvel) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/cosmic_marvel\/status\/2092370650199359835?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 25, 2026<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.x.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Side-by-side comparisons with the 2019 version suggest that Endgame Encore has a different colour grade, with several shots appearing brighter, more saturated and higher in contrast. Thanos, in particular, appears noticeably more purple in the new footage.<\/p>\n<p>The comparisons currently come from the new trailer, so some differences could be caused by the trailer itself or by how the footage has been captured and displayed. Fuhrmann played Cassie in Endgame, while Newton later took over the role in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Newton is also returning as Cassie in Doomsday.<\/p>\n<p>That would make a recast scene an obvious way to make the character&#8217;s appearances line up more closely before Doomsday.
