As Kit Harington faces criticism for joining the Harry Potter TV series, previous comments in which he praised his \u201cgender fluid\u201d upbringing and spoke out against traditional gender stereotypes have resurfaced.<\/span><\/p>\n

Less than two weeks after joining season two of HBO\u2019s Harry Potter reboot as Gilderoy Lockhart<\/a>, Nicholas Hoult has dropped out due to \u201cscheduling conflicts\u201d. He too faced significant backlash at the time due to the involvement of JK Rowling<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The same announcement revealed that Game of Thrones\u2019<\/a> Harington will be taking over, having already voiced Lockhart in last year\u2019s Harry Potter: The Full-Cast Audio Editions. In his first statement, he told Collider that he\u2019s a \u201chuge Potter fan\u201d.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

But the move has been met with widespread criticism<\/a>. Despite denying being transphobic, Rowling\u2019s words and actions have been widely condemned by LGBTQ+ rights groups as anti trans.<\/span><\/p>\n

While a number of the adult cast members have distanced themselves from Rowling\u2019s views, it\u2019s estimated that she\u2019ll still make tens of millions of pounds<\/a> each year as an executive producer and the primary rights holder.<\/span><\/p>\n

And Rowling has continued to use her fortune to provide financial and legal support for individuals and groups challenging trans-inclusive spaces, policies and workplace guidelines.<\/span><\/p>\n

As such, Harington\u2019s casting hasn\u2019t gone down well. \u201cNot Kit Harrington being a double offender,\u201d wrote one X user, referring to the audio series, while another said, \u201cThis choice is proof that he values a \u2018role\u2019 over the lives of trans people.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
