Nearly 20 years after The Devil Wears Prada thrust the world of high fashion into our lives, Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour has commented on the character heavily inspired by her, the ever-iconic Miranda Priestly.<\/p>\n

Anna Wintour, who has been at the steering wheel of Vogue since she rescued it in 1988, is currently in the UK for the launch of VOGUE: Inventing the Runway, an interactive exhibition that tracks the history of fashion. As part of her trip, she also attended the gala performance of Elton John’s The Devil Wears Prada where she answered questions that have been burning a hole in my brain for literally decades.<\/p>\n

2006’s The Devil Wears Prada literally changed my life. Not only did it introduce me to powerhouses like Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci, but it started a lifelong fascination with Anna Wintour who inspired the devil herself Miranda Priestly – right down to the sunglasses.<\/p>\n

The film itself was many people’s first introduction to Anna, and considering the savageness with which Miranda Priestly is still associated today, I can’t imagine the film did anything positive for her reputation.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the BBC<\/a> about the film, and whether or not Miranda Priestly is anything like her in real life, she said that it was “for the audience and for the people I work with to decide if there are any similarities between me and Miranda Priestly.”<\/p>\n

Journalist Katie Razzall was also keen to hear whether Anna feels as though she has to live up to the icy demeanour that Meryl Streep’s performance strapped to her.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t really think about it,” she said. “What I\u2019m really interested in is the creative aspect of my job.”<\/p>\n

Though the film pointed out that you never – and I mean never<\/em> – say no to Miranda Priestly, it’s slightly different for Anna who stated that “no is a wonderful word\u201d that she hears all the time.<\/p>\n

Has she said anything about the film before?<\/h2>\n
