The fourth episode of Reacher season four is out today, after the first three episodes dropped last week and introduced several new cast members, including Agnez Mo. But her character, Lila Hoth, feels a little different from her Reacher<\/a> book version, so here\u2019s exactly what the show has changed.<\/p>\n

Lila, played by Indonesian singer and actress Agnez Mo, is based on the character from Lee Child\u2019s 2010 novel Gone Tomorrow, which season four<\/a> is adapting. But the TV version has already changed quite a lot about her.<\/p>\n

And, actually, these changes completely change what we think Lila is up to when she first meets Reacher.<\/p>\n

So, what is different about Lila in Reacher?<\/h2>\n

In the first episode of season four, Lila tells Reacher that she\u2019s looking for John Sampson, played by Marc Blucas. She claims that Sampson is her biological father and says she needs a bone marrow transplant.<\/p>\n

It sounds pretty convincing at first, especially because Lila seems genuinely desperate to find him. Except, by episode three, we find out that this isn\u2019t the full story.<\/p>\n

Reacher catches Lila in her lie and confronts her about it. She eventually admits that she\u2019s a reporter and is actually investigating Sampson. Her goal is to uncover a scandal that could make Sampson unfit to become president. She also reveals that Amisha, played by Anggun, isn\u2019t actually her mother. Instead, Lila is trying to help Amisha get justice.<\/p>\n

So, basically, quite a lot of what Lila initially tells Reacher is a lie. And this is one of the biggest changes from Gone Tomorrow.<\/p>\n

What happens with Lila in the book?<\/h2>\n

In Gone Tomorrow, Lila also tells Reacher that she\u2019s looking for John Sampson because of her mother. But the details are different. Her mother is called Svetlana in the book, rather than Amisha, and Lila\u2019s initial story is about trying to help her.<\/p>\n

The book also reveals that Svetlana isn\u2019t actually Lila\u2019s biological mother. So, there\u2019s still some deception around Lila\u2019s background, but the TV series brings some of those reveals forward and gives her a different reason for going after Sampson.<\/p>\n

In the show, the reporter storyline makes Lila\u2019s investigation much more obvious. And, importantly, Reacher finds out that she\u2019s lying about part of her story much earlier. Basically, we\u2019re meant to start questioning Lila pretty much straight away, rather than just wondering what she\u2019s going to do next.<\/p>\n

Agnez Mo has also spoken about how much she liked the more complicated side of Lila. Speaking to Men\u2019s Journal, Mo said Lila has loads of layers and that she liked how determined her character is.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the first few episodes\u2026we know her as someone who doesn\u2019t take no for an answer,\u201d Mo said. \u201cYou can already see how determined she is. And she knows damn well that she is stepping into a journey that\u2019s not going to be comfortable for her, but she still does it anyway. And I think that\u2019s pretty badass.\u201d<\/p>\n
