People have been waiting for some good news about High Potential season three, but it has been delayed, so here’s why.<\/p>\n

ABC has moved High Potential<\/a> season three from its usual fall position to the network’s midseason schedule. That means viewers will now have to wait until 2027 for Morgan Gillory and the LAPD team to return.<\/p>\n

That might sound worrying, especially because it was ABC’s number one drama in the network’s 2025-2026 multiplatform rankings. But, actually, the reason for the delay has nothing to do with the show’s performance.<\/p>\n

So, why has High Potential been delayed?<\/h2>\n

ABC’s SVP of Content Strategy and Scheduling, Ari Goldman explained to Deadline<\/a> that ABC had seen strong results from keeping shows such as Will Trent and The Rookie together in uninterrupted runs beginning in January.<\/p>\n

He said the network wants to give viewers “a chance to watch these shows with as little interruption as possible across the season.”<\/p>\n

Rather than starting High Potential in autumn and then having the season interrupted by the usual breaks in the broadcast calendar, ABC wants to hold it until midseason and then run more of its episodes together.<\/p>\n

Goldman described the move as an opportunity to “keep an uninterrupted run of episodes.”<\/p>\n

So, while the wait is frustrating, this is essentially a scheduling decision rather than a creative or ratings problem.<\/p>\n

There is another reason behind the change<\/h2>\n

Basically, ABC wants to use the Tuesday night slot differently. In the fall 2026 schedule, Dancing with the Stars will air on Tuesdays at 8 p.m., followed by R.J. Decker at 10 p.m.<\/p>\n

That matters because High Potential previously benefited from being part of ABC’s Tuesday lineup. But ABC believes the show is established enough that it does not need to be used as a major launch vehicle for another programme.<\/p>\n

Goldman specifically explained that the network wanted to keep using the post-Dancing with the Stars slot to help launch newer programming. And High Potential “didn\u2019t necessarily need the lead-in support.”<\/p>\n

ABC can use the autumn schedule to give R.J. Decker more exposure, while keeping High Potential in reserve for the middle of the television season. That is when the network believes it can run the show more consistently.<\/p>\n

ABC has officially confirmed that High Potential season three will debut in 2027. But there is still no exact premiere date.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
