While celebrating Spider-Man: Brand New Day\u2019s record-breaking box office opening, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has addressed the MCU\u2019s<\/a> recent misses, arguing that audiences still turn out for stories that resonate.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In case you missed it, the fourth MCU Spider-Man<\/a> movie raked in an eye-watering $360 million at the North American box office in its opening weekend, officially beating the previous record held by Avengers: Endgame at $357 million.<\/span><\/p>\n

Globally, its tally jumped to $932 million – in just <\/span>three days<\/span><\/i>. This is a huge result, not only for the Tom Holland led film series but for Marvel overall.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It\u2019s no secret that the MCU has struggled to capture the zeitgeist in the same way it did 10 years ago, with talks of superhero fatigue emerging after a series of box office flops including Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts<\/a> and Fantastic Four.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This was something Feige was asked about in a recent interview with <\/span>Variety<\/span><\/a>, where he mentioned the impact of the pandemic and success post-Endgame.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe did think that things could increase, but the past five or six years didn\u2019t necessarily feel like that was the case,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

On what he\u2019s learned about Marvel\u2019s recent misses, Feige explained, \u201cI can only speak to Brand New Day, and audiences responded to a movie that\u2019s well-crafted and well-made.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThey don\u2019t always do that. But when they do, it\u2019s a nice reminder that success builds success. The Odyssey<\/a>, Toy Story 5 and all the great movies that have been in theaters this year reminds people there\u2019s nothing like a shared experience. There\u2019s nothing like a moment for the whole globe to come together.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

But the Marvel boss was further pressed about whether the misses indicate audiences are getting tired of the same stories, to which he replied, \u201cMany things can be true at once.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
