Following the fresh wave of allegations made against Hollywood star Jared Leto<\/a> in a new documentary, the director has shared a sinister theory as to why his career hasn\u2019t been impacted.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Sexual misconduct allegations against the 30 Seconds to Mars frontman first received widespread public attention in June 2025, when an Air Mail investigation published accounts from nine women.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The reporter of the story, Elena Clavarino, worked with BBC producer Jessica Sartenaer and Russell Brand: In Plain Sight director Alice McShane for Jared Leto: Hollywood\u2019s Dark Secret<\/a>, which dropped on Wednesday.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The BBC documentary includes allegations from 10 women who came forward, with four accusing Leto of criminal sexual misconduct<\/a> when they were teenagers.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Although the actor didn\u2019t respond to the BBC, his rep shared the following statement with Film Shrine<\/a> on his behalf: \u201cI have never sexually assaulted anyone in my entire life. These claims are absolutely and categorically false.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The BBC said it counted 120 separate allegations made online relating to his behaviour towards women, which has begged the question of how Leto\u2019s Hollywood career hasn\u2019t been impacted.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Despite the 2025 allegations, Leto remained as the lead in the 2025 movie Tron: Ares and played Skeletor in this year\u2019s Masters of the Universe<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The director pointed to two main reasons<\/h2>\n

In a conversation with <\/span>Variety<\/span><\/a>, Alice McShane put forward a theory about why this is the case, suggesting it could be a combination of the culture surrounding the manosphere and pretty privilege.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The interviewer pointed to the fact that Russell Brand is now facing criminal charges following In Plain Sight, but that the Air Mail investigation had little to no impact on Leto\u2019s career.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s quite a mystery, isn\u2019t it? There\u2019s something about our culture at the moment – I think there\u2019s something that I feel might be happening 10 years on from #MeToo. It just feels like the outrage about stories like this has slightly cooled,\u201d McShane replied.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
