Fans of Weapons <\/a>are about to get a lot more answers about one of the film\u2019s most mysterious characters, as director Zach Cregger has confirmed a prequel centred around Aunt Gladys<\/a> is officially moving forward.<\/p>\n

The upcoming film, currently being developed under the working title Gladys, will explore the origins of the character played by Amy Madigan, whose chilling performance as Aunt Gladys became one of the biggest talking points from the 2025 horror hit.<\/p>\n

Speaking during Collider\u2019s Directors on Directing panel at San Diego Comic-Con, Cregger opened up about why he wanted to keep Gladys\u2019 past hidden in Weapons, while teasing that there is a much bigger story waiting to be told.<\/p>\n

\u201cFirst of all, I\u2019m really excited about the Gladys movie, and I loved working with Amy,\u201d Cregger told the audience. \u201cI loved that character.\u201d<\/p>\n

He explained that keeping Gladys mysterious was an important part of Weapons\u2019 storytelling, saying: \u201cFor the movie Weapons, it really made a lot of sense not to dive into her backstory because the device of Weapons was to keep her very mysterious.\u201d<\/p>\n

But now, Cregger says the prequel will finally dig into how Gladys became the person audiences met in Weapons,\u00a0and it sounds like it will be just as unpredictable as the original.<\/p>\n

\u201cHowever, there\u2019s an amazing story to be told about where Gladys comes from and how she became what we know her as,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s got a lot of twists and turns and mysteries and crazy things, like Weapons does. I think it\u2019s going to be great.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe script is in progress now, but we\u2019re taking that super seriously, and it\u2019s moving in the right direction,\u201d Cregger said. \u201cSo yeah, it\u2019s being written, is the short answer.\u201d<\/p>\n
