\u201cWarning: Spoilers ahead for Lucky episode one*<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Lucky is the new show everyone\u2019s talking about, and while Anya Taylor-Joy<\/a> is excellent as the titular lead, there\u2019s one detail that frankly doesn\u2019t make a lot of sense.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Apple TV<\/a> series premiered on July 15th with its first two episodes, and is based on Marissa Stapley’s 2021 novel of the same name.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The story centres on Lucky, a con-artist who is left on the run from the FBI and a ruthless crime syndicate after a heist goes spectacularly wrong.<\/span><\/p>\n

It might not be the best TV show of 2026, but it\u2019s a damn fun ride so far. That said, viewers are taking issue with one detail in the premiere episodes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Lucky is a little too lucky in this instance<\/h2>\n

In episode one, Lucky gets tracked down by the FBI, only for the agent to get mowed down by mob boss Priscilla (Annette Bening).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

She gets her henchmen to load Lucky into her van, demanding the money from the heist. Lucky insists that she doesn\u2019t know where it is, and so she\u2019s loaded into the trunk of another mobster\u2019s car.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Here\u2019s the issue: organised crime is meant to be, well, organised. In this case, they leave a known con artist alone in the back of their car with nothing more than a zip tie holding her hands together (which she swiftly burns off with her lighter).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

They also have their music on full blast, so they hear none of this. And they\u2019ve clearly forgotten there\u2019s a screwdriver and a pair of safety flares in the back. Needless to say, she escapes pretty easily.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Taking to <\/span>Reddit<\/span><\/a>, one person wrote, \u201cNot sure if those were cartel henchmen and enforcers… but really dumb that they didn’t check her pockets? Lol.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cYa and they killed an FBI agent with visible plates,\u201d added another, to which the original commenter replied, \u201cAnd then had all those tools in the car trunk for her to help her escape, when they know she is a trained thief?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cLike, who has flares in their trunk?\u201d added a third, with a fourth chiming in, \u201cMost gangsters who work in a desert have flares, but the dumb ones would ask questions like this, and would die even more stupidly to Lucky.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Others have commented on the FBI too, with one writing, \u201cI guess she is Lucky that the FBI is incompetent and the guys who kidnapped her were dumb enough to not check her pockets and left a bunch of sh*t in the trunk of the car.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Not everyone agrees with this take, however, because, let\u2019s face it, the series would be boring if this weren\u2019t the case. For a crime thriller of this type, you kind of have to suspend disbelief and just enjoy the ride.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As said by one, \u201cDumb fun like other commenter said. It\u2019s an entertaining ride and ATJ is awesome. It\u2019s kinda funny how someone with her model looks is being this character whose face is sooo recognisable on the run.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
