Director Uwe Boll has pushed back on a report claiming Armie Hammer was in tears over Citizen Vigilante<\/a> and its hateful message.<\/span><\/p>\n

Earlier this week, the latest Puck<\/a> newsletter from Matthew Belloni included quotes from a source within Hammer\u2019s team, who claimed that the actor cried<\/a> when he first saw the film in full.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe first time he saw it, he was in tears,\u201d they told Belloni. \u201cHe called me and said, \u2018F**k. This is hateful, disgusting.\u2019\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Before Citizen Vigilante released, Hammer – who was blacklisted from Hollywood but not charged following multiple allegations of sexual assault<\/a> – said Boll had reached out to him to offer him the lead role.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

He was surprised by the fact that Boll\u2019s process doesn\u2019t involve long scripts. Instead, he received a 50-page treatment, questioning, \u201cWhere\u2019s the rest?\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Hammer went ahead with the project regardless, resulting in Citizen Vigilante<\/a>, which has faced widespread criticism for its anti-immigrant message.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The insider told Belloni that Hammer was horrified by the movie, adding, \u201cI think he knew it certainly leaned toward the right, but Uwe works in a very frantic way.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not like he sent him a hundred-page script. When he saw the final product, he was, \u2018That was not the movie I thought we made,\u2019 and he freaked the f**k out.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

However, Boll has now spoken to <\/span>TMZ<\/span><\/a> to shut down these claims, saying that the actor attended the screening of the film at the American Film Market, took part in multiple promo interviews, and led the Q&A at its first public screening.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
