{"id":6188,"date":"2026-07-08T15:18:28","date_gmt":"2026-07-08T14:18:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thetab.com\/filmshrine\/?p=6188"},"modified":"2026-07-08T15:18:28","modified_gmt":"2026-07-08T14:18:28","slug":"desperate-the-odyssey-haters-are-stealing-premiere-photos-to-fake-bad-reviews","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thetab.com\/filmshrine\/2026\/07\/08\/desperate-the-odyssey-haters-are-stealing-premiere-photos-to-fake-bad-reviews\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Desperate&#8217; The Odyssey haters are stealing premiere photos to fake bad reviews"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Following a series of glowing first reactions from legitimate film critics, <a href=\"https:\/\/thetab.com\/filmshrine\/tag\/the-odyssey\/\">The Odyssey<\/a> haters are giving their own reviews &#8211; and they\u2019re seemingly turning to \u2018desperate\u2019 measures to do so.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Christopher Nolan\u2019s upcoming movie adapts Homer&#8217;s ancient Greek epic of the same name, and while there\u2019s plenty of hype for the filmmaker\u2019s next project, it\u2019s also faced criticism online from right wing commentators including Elon Musk and Matt Walsh.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A lot of focus has been placed on the casting of <a href=\"https:\/\/thetab.com\/filmshrine\/2026\/07\/06\/the-odysseys-lupita-nyongo-faces-fresh-wave-of-racist-backlash-after-homer-comment\/\">Black actress Lupita Nyong&#8217;o as Helen of Troy<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/thetab.com\/filmshrine\/2026\/06\/17\/transphobia-against-elliot-page-grows-as-the-odyssey-approaches-and-elon-musk-joins-dogpile\/\">transgender actor Elliot Page as Sinon<\/a>, with Musk calling Nolan a \u201cworm\u201d and Walsh suggesting the director is afraid of being called racist.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Many have brushed off <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">these comments as thinly veiled bigotry under the guise of concern over historical accuracy.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Lupita Nyong\u2019o is probably one of if not THE most beautiful women on earth but oh no a bunch of racists with Internet connections are already shitting on <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/hashtag\/TheOdyssey?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#TheOdyssey<\/a> because it doesn\u2019t have historical accuracy. <\/p>\n<p>The odyssey is a myth. <\/p>\n<p>Take all the time you need. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/FJdKSzDj0N\">pic.twitter.com\/FJdKSzDj0N<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; \ud83c\udf4d\ud83c\udf3a\uea00 \ud835\udd39\ud835\udd66\ud835\udd55\ud835\udd55\ud835\udd59\ud835\udd52 \u2102\ud835\udd60\ud835\udd5e\ud835\udd5a\ud835\udd54\ud835\udd64 (@Bodhi_Tweets) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Bodhi_Tweets\/status\/2074604809034850419?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 7, 2026<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.x.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/culture\/article\/20260626-why-the-odyssey-has-caused-so-much-controversy\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">BBC<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> reported, Professor Daniel Mendelsohn &#8211; who recently published a new translation of Homer&#8217;s poem &#8211; expressed amusement over \u201call of these bros suddenly worrying about Greek literature\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/thetab.com\/filmshrine\/2026\/07\/08\/the-first-reactions-to-christopher-nolans-the-odyssey-are-wildly-positive-ahead-of-release\/\">early comments from real critics<\/a> called The Odyssey a \u201cstaggering achievement\u201d with \u201cflawless filmmaking,\u201d and there\u2019s plenty of praise for the stacked cast.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Since the first reactions dropped this week, there\u2019s been much pushback, including multiple unfounded claims that critics were \u201cpaid\u201d to give positive reviews &#8211; but some have taken this one step further.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>The Odyssey hates called out for stealing photos<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At least two editors who actually attended early screenings of the film have now spoken out after their premiere photos were stolen and reposted alongside fabricated negative reviews.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/hashtag\/TheOdyssey?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#TheOdyssey<\/a> I finished watching The Odyssey and it felt extremely dull and drawn out. Performances were great but Tom Holland was easily the weakest for me. I expected this to be a role where he could show his range but it didn\u2019t work. Not much else to say, just disappointed.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In response to a now-deleted comment, they wrote, \u201cHating on me for not liking a movie isn\u2019t cool of you btw,\u201d alongside a photo of their world premiere tickets.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, movie critic Jeremy Chopra shared their post and pointed out that this is, in fact, his image.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Wow this person&#39;s managed to have a hand that looks exactly like mine and got a photo of my invite to <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/hashtag\/TheOdyssey?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#TheOdyssey<\/a> Premiere from exactly the same angle as my photo and with the same person walking in front of it. Alongside it, they wrote, \u201cSnagged an early view to Nolan\u2019s #TheOdyssey\u2026 and all I can say is YIKES.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWas severely underwhelmed and disappointed cause Nolan is one of my favorites. Bravo to Matt, Lupita, and Zendaya. The rest must have thought it was a Tubi set. Save your money and watch #TheInvite instead.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Much like the last incident, this photo was stolen too, this time from Evan Romano, culture editor at Men\u2019s Health. Embarrassing losers.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another commented, \u201cWeirdos are stealing pictures to try to make their hate for #TheOdyssey look legitimate.
