{"id":6106,"date":"2026-07-07T11:19:28","date_gmt":"2026-07-07T10:19:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thetab.com\/filmshrine\/?p=6106"},"modified":"2026-07-07T11:19:28","modified_gmt":"2026-07-07T10:19:28","slug":"armie-hammer-in-tears-first-time-he-saw-the-hateful-citizen-vigilante-uwe-boll","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thetab.com\/filmshrine\/2026\/07\/07\/armie-hammer-in-tears-first-time-he-saw-the-hateful-citizen-vigilante-uwe-boll\/","title":{"rendered":"Armie Hammer was &#8216;in tears&#8217; the first time he saw the &#8216;hateful&#8217; Citizen Vigilante in full"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Despite its success with the right, Armie Hammer was not a fan of Uwe Boll\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/thetab.com\/filmshrine\/tag\/citizen-vigilante\/\">Citizen Vigilante<\/a> and unaware that the film would turn out the way it did, according to a new report.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The controversial thriller landed last month and quickly became a talking point after <a href=\"https:\/\/thetab.com\/filmshrine\/2026\/06\/17\/citizen-vigilante-director-uwe-boll-armie-hammer-movie-makes-wild-claim-banned-germany\/\">Germany blocked its release<\/a> over concerns about its anti-immigration and anti-Muslim messaging.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hammer plays the lead character, a wealthy American businessman who takes the law into his own hands and guns down criminal migrants in Europe.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After <a href=\"https:\/\/thetab.com\/filmshrine\/2026\/06\/29\/uwe-boll-threatens-citizen-vigilante-2-after-elon-musk-shares-armie-hammer-movie\/\">Elon Musk shared the film<\/a> in full on X for 48 hours, it became available on Amazon Prime in the US, where it swiftly made it to the number one spot.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Citizen Vigilante | Official Trailer\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/fVxmjwaPEFU?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Filmmaker Uwe Boll added fuel to the fire when he accused the \u201cwoke left in Europe\u201d of ignoring facts in an interview with <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/hollywood-elsewhere.com\/280801-2\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hollywood Elsewhere<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, before claiming that \u201cIslamic migrants\u2026 will take over in around 30 years\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Citizen Vigilante is also Armie Hammer\u2019s comeback film after having been largely blacklisted by Hollywood due to multiple sexual assault and psychological abuse allegations, and <a href=\"https:\/\/thetab.com\/filmshrine\/2026\/07\/01\/armie-hammer-all-text-messages-cannibalistic-as-citizen-vigilante-blows-up\/\">expressing cannibalistic fantasies<\/a> in leaked text messages.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Given Hammer\u2019s desire to return to acting, many assumed he knew exactly what he was signing up for. However, a new report suggests that wasn&#8217;t necessarily the case.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Armie Hammer \u2018freaked the f**k out\u2019 after seeing Citizen Vigilante<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the latest <a href=\"https:\/\/puck.news\/citizen-armie-hammers-desperate-comeback-gamble\/\">Puck newsletter<\/a> from Matthew Belloni, a source within Hammer\u2019s team claimed that the actor cried when he first saw the film in full.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe first time he saw it, he was in tears,\u201d they told Belloni. \u201cHe called me and said, \u2018F**k. This is hateful, disgusting.\u2019\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you\u2019re wondering how this can happen, other than being dubbed the world\u2019s worst director, Boll is famous for avoiding long scripts and instead writing short treatments for his films.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5358\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5358\" style=\"width: 1200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-5358\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.filmshrine.com\/uploads\/2026\/06\/1-7.jpg\" alt=\"Armie Hammer in Citizen Vigilante\" width=\"1200\" height=\"630\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.filmshrine.com\/uploads\/2026\/06\/1-7.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/cdn.filmshrine.com\/uploads\/2026\/06\/1-7-1024x538.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/cdn.filmshrine.com\/uploads\/2026\/06\/1-7-768x403.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-5358\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Credit: Quiver Distribution<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hammer himself touched upon this in a recent interview with <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/news\/general-news\/armie-hammer-exclusive-interview-career-scandal-1236621644\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Hollywood Reporter<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, saying that he only received a 50-page script after being approached to star in Citizen Vigilante.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI was like, \u2018Where\u2019s the rest?\u2019\u201d he said, before impersonating Boll\u2019s response: \u201c\u2018No, no, no! Ve just go and shoot and have fun. Ve vant you to be great!\u2019\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He also said in the same interview that he was so desperate to get back into acting, he \u201cwould have done a f***ing cat food commercial.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Even so, the Hammer insider told Belloni that he was horrified by the movie. \u201cI think he knew it certainly leaned toward the right, but Uwe works in a very frantic way,\u201d they continued.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIt\u2019s not like he sent him a hundred-page script. When he saw the final product, he was, \u2018That was not the movie I thought we made,\u2019 and he freaked the f**k out.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They also said Hammer was paid approximately $250,000 for the role. Despite being unhappy about the final results, the source indicated that Hammer would reprise his role for <a href=\"https:\/\/thetab.com\/filmshrine\/2026\/06\/30\/tristan-tate-begs-for-role-in-uwe-boll-controversial-citizen-vigilante-2\/\">the sequel<\/a> &#8211; if the price is right.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIt would have to be life-changing money.
