Amid the box office underperformance and misogynistic comments directed at Milly Alcock<\/a>, one DC star who knows a thing or two about the industry has shared their support: Helen Slater, who played the original Supergirl.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

There have been two separate issues surrounding the DCU\u2019s<\/a> latest movie, the first being its box office tally<\/a>. So far, it\u2019s made $74million worldwide, far lower than what it needs to make to recoup its $170million budget (and that\u2019s before marketing).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

But long before the film dropped, one corner of the internet was targeting Alcock for her appearance, something that\u2019s ramped up in recent weeks.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It\u2019s something the House of the Dragon<\/a> star herself spoke about, saying her fame has made her aware that people will comment on women and their bodies simply for existing in the industry.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Others have targeted the themes present in Supergirl<\/a> itself, with individuals like Megyn Kelly saying audiences are tired of the \u201cforced-upon-us girlboss era\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

DC Studios\u2019 co-CEO Peter Safran admitted<\/a> that the film\u2019s opening weekend didn\u2019t meet expectations, but said it\u2019s part of the franchise\u2019s wider strategy that the team remains confident in.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Actors defend Supergirl and Milly Alcock<\/h2>\n

Helen Slater was just 18 years old when she landed her acting debut as Superman\u2019s cousin in the 1984 movie Supergirl. Despite the negative discourse<\/a> online, she\u2019s a big fan of the new iteration.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI loved the new Supergirl film. I thought Milly Alcock was astonishing – fierce, strong and great comic timing,\u201d she told <\/span>The Hollywood Reporter<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Slater\u2019s not the only celebrity to defend Alcock this week, either.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Rahul Kohli – best known for collaborations with Mike Flanagan in the Netflix series The Haunting of Bly Manor, Midnight Mass, and The Fall of the House of Usher – appeared to reference the hate directed at Alcock.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In his latest Instagram story, he wrote, \u201cHow have we fallen so far where it’s just \u2018normal\u2019 for grown arse adults to bully and weaponise their large following to harass a young actor who dared to play a F**KING COMIC BOOK CHARACTER?<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cYour country is falling apart, your economy is in the gutter AND THIS IS WHAT YOU CHOOSE TO SPEND YOUR TIME ON? Bullying a girl 30 years younger than you?<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cF**king pathetic the lot of them. Crusty p*do sympathisers.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
