Ryan Condal, the showrunner of House of the Dragon, has announced his exit from the series after a George R.R. Martin feud reached a breaking point.<\/p>\n

The highly anticipated third season of the Game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon<\/a>, has finally premiered. After the extremely divisive second season, many viewers say the third season is a huge improvement and even reaches the enjoyability of Game of Thrones<\/a> at its peak.<\/p>\n

But behind the scenes, things have been super messy. Showrunner<\/a> Ryan Condal and original book writer George R.R. Marin have fallen out after a fairly positive relationship. In an interview with Deadline<\/a>, Ryan broke down the process of season three and acknowledged his plans to leave the series after its fourth season.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m an \u2018all good things come to an end\u2019 type person. I don\u2019t know what I will feel yet [when it finishes] because right now the show is almost like a snake eating its tail; very rarely are you doing one thing,” the creator said. “Right now, we\u2019re crafting Season 4 before we\u2019ve even finished Season 3 and released it to the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added: \u201cAnything is possible, but I think I have said what I have to say about Westeros.”<\/p>\n

In a profile published in January by The Hollywood Reporter<\/a>, George R.R. Marin spoke about his deteriorating relationship with Ryan, whom he hired for the series.<\/p>\n

“I thought Ryan and I were partners,” George said. “And we were all through the first season. I would read early drafts of the scripts. I would give notes. He would change some things. It was working really well \u2014 I thought.”<\/p>\n

But after the first season’s success, George claimed that their communication had broken down.<\/p>\n

“He basically stopped listening to me,” the author continued.<\/p>\n

“I would give notes, and nothing would happen. Sometimes he would explain why he wasn’t doing it. Other times, he would tell me, ‘Oh, OK, yeah, I’ll think about that.’ It got worse and worse, and I grew more and more annoyed. Finally, it got to a point where HBO told me that I should submit all my notes to them and they would give Ryan our combined notes.”<\/p>\n

Though the showrunner hasn’t given an exact reason for his departure, the announcement came mere months after the rift with George R.R. Martin became public.<\/p>\n
