{"id":5386,"date":"2026-06-17T18:01:52","date_gmt":"2026-06-17T17:01:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thetab.com\/filmshrine\/?p=5386"},"modified":"2026-06-17T18:01:52","modified_gmt":"2026-06-17T17:01:52","slug":"olivia-wilde-blames-parasocial-relationship-on-backlash-to-her-dating-harry-styles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thetab.com\/filmshrine\/2026\/06\/17\/olivia-wilde-blames-parasocial-relationship-on-backlash-to-her-dating-harry-styles\/","title":{"rendered":"Olivia Wilde blames &#8216;parasocial relationship&#8217; on backlash to her dating Harry Styles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Olivia Wilde has opened up about the backlash to the 10-year age gap between her and <a href=\"https:\/\/thetab.com\/filmshrine\/tag\/harry-styles\/\">Harry Styles<\/a>, saying that \u2018parasocial relationships\u2019 were a significant factor.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The filmmaker was in the headlines recently when it emerged that <a href=\"https:\/\/thetab.com\/filmshrine\/2026\/04\/28\/channing-tatum-posts-bizarre-poem-in-salty-response-to-zoe-kravitzs-engagement-to-harry-styles\/\">Harry and Zo\u00eb Kravitz got engaged<\/a>, with fake social media posts alleging that Olivia complained about it on Instagram (she didn\u2019t).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She and the singer dated after meeting on the set of her movie Don\u2019t Worry Darling, before breaking up in 2022. Although both have moved on, that doesn\u2019t mean she\u2019s forgotten the backlash that resulted from their relationship.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At the time, Olivia bore the brunt of a lot of the vitriol, and though many talked about the fact that she was 37 at the time while Harry was 27, she believes the reason is more related to the relationship fans have with the singer.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">OLIVIA WILDE AND HARRY STYLES! <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/mGlYGkyG9f\">pic.twitter.com\/mGlYGkyG9f<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Shurti\u1d34 \ud83d\udc8b (@94fearlover) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/94fearlover\/status\/1783175894057554266?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 24, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.x.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Appearing on the latest episode of the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=2xLOnvD5Czc\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Call Her Daddy<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> podcast, the filmmaker told host Alex Cooper, \u201cOh man, it really did upset people\u2026 It was crazy. I don\u2019t know how much I understand it yet. I understand it had very little to do with me.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cPeople were f**king pissed,\u201d she added. \u201cI think it also had a lot to do with the parasocial relationship people have with him, which is a burden that is very weighty and not something I envy. He carries it with grace.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Olivia went on to say that it was all the more baffling as they \u201chad the loveliest relationship, like so sweet and beautiful, and really very domestic and lovely.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI think we existed in this little bubble, and the judgment never got in, which was a miracle, a testament to us making that happen,\u201d she said. \u201cI think that people were mad.
