As the creator of his Backrooms world, Kane Parsons is responsible for the film’s success, but a new report reveals a Hollywood assistant played a crucial role in getting it made.<\/span><\/p>\n

Since landing in cinemas on Friday, May 29th, the A24-backed<\/a> Backrooms movie has made a whopping $126million at the global box office, a rare feat, especially given its reported $10million production budget.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Even more impressive is that Kane – who started posting his viral Backrooms<\/a> shorts at the age of 16 – is only 20 years old now, making him the youngest director to top the North American box office.<\/span><\/p>\n

This, coupled with Obsession\u2019s<\/a> global success (another breakout horror hit helmed by a young content creator), represents a changing of the guard in Hollywood, proving there\u2019s a thirst for original, indie produced cinema as opposed to major studio-backed IP.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
