From the Oscar-winning film <a href=\"https:\/\/thetab.com\/filmshrine\/tag\/film\/\">The Departed<\/a> to modern classics like The Wolf of Wall Street, the 83-year-old has been a widely respected figure in the film industry &#8211; for good reason. But his latest endorsement of <a href=\"https:\/\/thetab.com\/filmshrine\/tag\/ai\/\">AI<\/a> in the filmmaking process has proven extremely controversial.<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday, it was announced that Martin would become an advisor to Black Forest Labs. On their official site, Black Forest describes itself as the &#8220;frontier lab for visual intelligence&#8221;.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">cannot stress enough how disappointing it is that Martin Scorsese is collaborating with an AI company and putting a stain on his name so late in his life and career. he is like the last person i\u2019d expect this from<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Memor\u00efa (@deathofmeaning) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/deathofmeaning\/status\/2061859726787244286?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 2, 2026<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.x.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>In a statement posted on their website, Martin claimed that there needs to be a more open attitude toward the use of AI in the creative process of making a film.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCinema is a young medium, only around 125 years old, so we have to be open to how it can evolve,\u201d he said. \u201cI utilised 3D with Hugo and de-ageing technology for The Irishman. Earlier this year, Marvel Studios laid off many of its core VFX artists, causing widespread outrage. According to research by Otis College of Art and Design in partnership with Westwood Economics and Planning Consultants, 114,000 creative roles have been lost in Hollywood from 2022 to 2025.<\/p>\n<p>The news has sparked significant backlash, as cinema viewers insist they don&#8217;t want to see AI used in Hollywood.
