If you\u2019ve seen Obsession, the car scene will no doubt be seared into your memory. Making it happen was no mean feat, as revealed by the cast.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Obsession is undoubtedly 2026\u2019s answer to Weapons<\/a>. It\u2019s a truly original movie from horror icon Curry Barker, with a standout cast led by Inde Navarrette (her physical performance alone deserves an Oscar, it\u2019s straight up nightmare fuel).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The story itself centres on Bear (Michael Johnston), who is in love with his childhood friend and co-worker Nikki (Navarrette). When he can\u2019t muster up the courage to say how he feels, he buys a \u2018one wish willow\u2019 toy and cracks it, wishing Nikki loved him more than anyone in the world.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As the saying goes, be careful what you wish for – the results are, frankly, horrifying<\/a>. As Nikki\u2019s terrifying behaviour escalates, Bear sneaks out the house to see their mutual friend Sarah (Megan Lawless).<\/span><\/p>\n

She warns him that Nikki isn\u2019t acting right, revealing that Nikki and their mutual Ian (Cooper Tomlinson) had been hooking up for months before they got together. Sarah also expresses her interest in him, and for a moment it seems Bear is realising he made the wrong decision.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Before they can talk any further, however, Nikki appears out of nowhere, smashes the car window with her head, and bashes Sarah\u2019s face into a brick against the steering wheel until it resembles a plate of spaghetti.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It\u2019s Terrifier-level gory, and it was also done on a Terrifier-level budget (a reported $750,000), which is what makes the scene all the more impressive.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

How Obsession\u2019s grisly car scene was made<\/h2>\n

Firstly, there was the car window itself, which wasn\u2019t CGI due to the budget. They only had enough for three fake glass sheets, but one of them broke on the way to shoot the scene.<\/span><\/p>\n

Speaking to <\/span>Raiders Of The Lost Podcast<\/span><\/a>, Michael Johnston explained, \u201cBasically it’s this big sheet of glass\u2026 the breakaway glass. We only had three of them, and on the way over one of them broke before we even got to filming.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Megan Lawless added, \u201cThey’re carrying it over and then they velcro it onto the outside of the car. The first one [broke] before it even velcroed up on the car.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cCurry was literally telling us when it shattered that we had to be on it,\u201d Johnston said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

With just two takes left, they got to shooting the first, and while it looked great, a piece of styrofoam-like material holding the glass up fell in shot. \u201cWe just did not have the $10,000 to CGI it out,\u201d Johnston said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

So now they were only down to one take, which thankfully they nailed. This in itself wasn\u2019t easy, as both cast members said the whole thing felt \u201cridiculous\u201d.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
