*Warning: Spoilers ahead for The Boys season five episode seven*<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Soldier Boy finally started to feel something other than disdain for his weird son in the last episode of The Boys<\/a>, and <\/span>how<\/span><\/i> does Homelander repay him?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Well, firstly, let\u2019s take a look at what happened last week. In season five episode six of the Prime Video series, Soldier Boy<\/a> finally got hold of the last remaining sample of the V1, presumably to get rid of it.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

But in a dramatic change of heart, he just gave it to Homelander<\/a>, who swiftly injected it and levelled up – he\u2019s now biologically immortal (and even stronger).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It was all a little confusing, but Soldier Boy reveals his reason in episode seven, and it\u2019s what we expected: he did it because it\u2019s what Clara Vought, aka Stormfront<\/a>, would’ve wanted.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Homelander mistakenly assumes this means he\u2019s finally earned his father\u2019s approval, and after disbanding The Seven as part of a Vought rebrand, he excitedly unveils plans for a new theme park called Homeland (what else?).<\/span><\/p>\n

One section is even named \u201cSoldier Boy, Father of God\u201d, complete with the park\u2019s fastest rides.<\/span><\/p>\n

Soldier Boy rejects Homelander in BRUTAL fashion<\/h2>\n

While Homelander<\/a> expects enthusiasm back, Soldier Boy immediately shuts him down, revealing he\u2019s leaving for Bogot\u00e1 and has no intention of coming back.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis just ain\u2019t my bag, kid,\u201d he says, making it painfully clear he wants nothing to do with his son\u2019s grand vision for the future.<\/span><\/p>\n

Homelander desperately tries to keep him around, even offering to scrap the entire park, but Soldier Boy then delivers the real gut-punch.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI gave you the V1 because of Clara. Because that\u2019s what she would\u2019ve wanted,\u201d he explains, clarifying that he never \u201cchose\u201d Homelander at all.<\/span><\/p>\n

He then says they were never going to be a normal father-son duo because Homelander is \u201ctoo weird.\u201d Ouch.<\/span><\/p>\n

When Homelander insists he\u2019s a god, Soldier Boy brutally mocks him: \u201cNo angel came to you. You had a wet dream about some chick with big, juicy tits. If that makes you a god, then I\u2019m a f**king god every night.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Realising there\u2019s nothing he can say to change his father\u2019s mind, Homelander tells him, \u201cIf you wanna go, go,\u201d to which Soldier Boy replies, \u201cGood luck, son.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

But just as it seems like the conversation is over, Homelander starts crying before grabbing Soldier Boy from behind and choking him unconscious.<\/span><\/p>\n

So, is Soldier Boy dead?<\/h2>\n

Nope, as later on in The Boys season five episode seven, we see Soldier Boy back in his cryogenic chamber as Homie watches over him.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It seems that rather than killing his father outright, Homelander chose to freeze him again. And we can assume that this means Soldier Boy will play a vital part in the final showdown between Homie and Butcher.<\/span><\/p>\n

To be fair, you likely came to the same conclusion that Soldier Boy is still alive, but it\u2019s worth clarifying as it\u2019s not explicitly said in the episode. Plus, what\u2019s more interesting is what it reveals about Homelander\u2019s psyche.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Why did Homelander do that?<\/h2>\n

Homelander\u2019s desire to become a god stems from his desperate need to be loved. Throughout The Boys, he\u2019s desperately craved approval from parental figures, whether that\u2019s Madelyn Stillwell, Stan Edgar, or Soldier Boy himself.<\/span><\/p>\n

So after being given the V1, he convinced himself that his father finally accepted him. Hearing Soldier Boy bluntly say he only did it because of Clara – and that he\u2019s not a god and \u201ctoo weird\u201d – was basically Homelander\u2019s worst nightmare.<\/span><\/p>\n

And we all know how dangerous a fragile ego can be. That\u2019s likely why Homie attacked him in the first place – it was an emotional impulse.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

At the same time, the fact that he doesn\u2019t actually kill Soldier Boy says a lot too. If it were anyone else, their guts would be splattered across the room within seconds.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As former Vought CEO, Stan Edgar, previously said, Homelander will hang onto any paternal figure he can. It\u2019s one of the reasons he spared Edgar himself, as well as the Legend in the last episode<\/a> – he just can\u2019t bring himself to kill them.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Showrunner Eric Kripe spoke about this to <\/span>ScreenRant<\/span><\/a> when discussing why he let Legend go despite his clear betrayal.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
