It\u2019s always a no holds barred event, but this year\u2019s edition has sparked controversy.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During his own session, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hinchcliffe turned attention to Kevin Hart and said, \u201cYou\u2019ve done good Kevin. The Black community is so proud of you. Killa \ud83c\udf3a (@KillaKreww) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/KillaKreww\/status\/2053770367227846961?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 11, 2026<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Floyd was a Black man murdered by white former police officer Derek Chauvin in Minneapolis in 2020, with his dying words, \u201cI can\u2019t breathe,\u201d later becoming a rallying cry during global protests against police brutality and racism.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hinchcliffe\u2019s punchline directly referenced those final moments and alluded to the idea of Floyd being in hell, which is why many viewers felt the joke crossed a line.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Floyd\u2019s own family and friends even slammed his words, with a spokesperson for The Gianna and George Floyd Foundation telling <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tmz.com\/2026\/05\/11\/george-floyd-family-angry-over-kevin-hart-roast\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">TMZ<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that it\u2019s \u201csad for the culture.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Now, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lil Rel Howery &#8211; who is also a stand-up comedian &#8211; has addressed the backlash and shared his thoughts on the situation.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Lil Rel Howery says Tony Hinchcliffe\u2019s joke \u2018didn&#8217;t make f**king sense to me\u2019<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In a series of videos shared on his Instagram account, Howery said the joke made \u201cno sense\u201d to him and described it as \u201cdisgusting,\u201d arguing there was \u201cno reason\u201d to bring Floyd into the roast at all.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"instagram-media\" style=\"background: #FFF; font-weight: normal; line-height: 17px; text-decoration: none;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DYPab_EgJZB\/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;utm_campaign=loading\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">A post shared by Lil Rel Howery (@comedianlilrel)<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He also criticised the audience for not booing Hinchcliffe when they did for Draymond Green, saying he personally would have \u201cwalked out.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Howery first shouted out a series of celebs who were at The Roast of Kevin Hart, including Kevin himself, as well as Sheryl Underwood, <a href=\"https:\/\/thetab.com\/filmshrine\/2026\/05\/11\/what-chelsea-handler-said-about-jeffrey-epstein-dinner-kevin-hart-shane-gilllis-roast\/\">Chelsea Handler<\/a>, and Katt Williams, saying there were \u201csome funny people on it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He went on to say that he was invited to be involved in the 2026 Netflix Is A Joke Festival, but that he couldn\u2019t as he\u2019s shooting a movie in New York right now, and expressed gratitude that he\u2019s a working actor and comedian.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Addressing the Hinchcliffe situation, Howery explained, \u201cI\u2019m just keeping it 100, y\u2019all\u2026 I don&#8217;t understand. Like, it&#8217;s one thing to roast the people that&#8217;s there. It&#8217;s one thing to roast the people that may be in the audience there.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cRoasting somebody that number one is dead, number two that&#8217;s not there\u2026 Tony Hinchcliffe\u2019s joke about George Floyd didn&#8217;t make f**king sense to me. There was no reason to bring George Floyd into this. that they didn\u2019t \u201cboo Tony Hinchcliffe right after that.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI get it, man, and I&#8217;m okay with not being a part of a lot of this cliquey bulls**t that&#8217;s in comedy or in our business that some of y&#8217;all may think I&#8217;m a part of, but I&#8217;m not,\u201d he continued.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI a hundred percent would&#8217;ve booed that motherf**ker and probably walked out.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the final video, the actor acknowledged that at times \u201cwe are too sensitive about certain things,\u201d but questioned \u201cwhy we just can&#8217;t agree that bringing up George Floyd and the way he did it was just f**ked up, and not funny, and not needed.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Film Shrine has reached out to Hinchcliffe\u2019s representatives for
