{"id":3520,"date":"2026-05-12T11:43:40","date_gmt":"2026-05-12T10:43:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thetab.com\/filmshrine\/?p=3520"},"modified":"2026-05-12T14:58:58","modified_gmt":"2026-05-12T13:58:58","slug":"george-floyd-family-slams-tony-hinchcliffe-for-joke-at-kevin-hart-roast","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thetab.com\/filmshrine\/2026\/05\/12\/george-floyd-family-slams-tony-hinchcliffe-for-joke-at-kevin-hart-roast\/","title":{"rendered":"George Floyd\u2019s family slams Tony Hinchcliffe for &#8216;racist&#8217; joke at Kevin Hart roast"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The family of George Floyd has spoken out against comedian Tony Hinchcliffe after he joked about Floyd\u2019s death during The Roast of Kevin Hart on <a href=\"https:\/\/thetab.com\/filmshrine\/tag\/netflix\/\">Netflix<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The special, which aired live on the streaming service on Sunday, May 10th, saw a host of celebrities taking to the stage and throwing comedic insults at each other.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some jokes have stirred up old controversies, with host Shane Gillis bringing up Chelsea Handler\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/thetab.com\/filmshrine\/2026\/05\/11\/what-chelsea-handler-said-about-jeffrey-epstein-dinner-kevin-hart-shane-gilllis-roast\/\">2010 dinner with Jeffrey Epstein<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/thetab.com\/filmshrine\/2026\/05\/11\/real-reason-pete-davidson-called-tony-hinchcliffe-nazi-during-kevin-hart-roast-netflix\/\">Pete Davidson calling Hinchcliffe a \u201cnazi\u201d<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When it was Hinchcliffe\u2019s turn, he turned attention to Kevin Hart and said, \u201cYou\u2019ve done good Kevin. The Black community is so proud of you. Right now George Floyd is looking up at us all laughing so hard he can&#8217;t breathe.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Tony Hinchcliffe made a WILD George Floyd joke while roasting Kevin Hart \ud83d\udc80<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Black community is so proud of you\u2026 right now George Floyd is looking up at us all laughing so hard he can\u2019t breathe.\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/33T2anzhja\">pic.twitter.com\/33T2anzhja<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Killa \ud83c\udf3a (@KillaKreww) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/KillaKreww\/status\/2053770367227846961?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 11, 2026<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Floyd was a Black man who was murdered by a white police officer, Derek Chauvin, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in 2020.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After his murder, a series of protests against police brutality, especially toward Black people, quickly spread nationally and then internationally. His dying words &#8211; \u201cI can\u2019t breathe\u201d &#8211; became a rallying slogan.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hinchcliffe\u2019s joke caused audible gasps from the audience, while also facing backlash online, with some <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/reel\/DYPW6kyCtMr\/\">accusing<\/a> it of being racist or at the very least in poor taste. And now Floyd\u2019s own family has addressed it.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>George Floyd\u2019s family and friends say the Netflix roast joke crossed a line<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Travis Cains, a spokesman for The Gianna and George Floyd Foundation, told <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tmz.com\/2026\/05\/11\/george-floyd-family-angry-over-kevin-hart-roast\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">TMZ<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that Floyd\u2019s family and friends are appalled by the fact that Hinchcliffe was invited back for another Netflix roast.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3523\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3523\" style=\"width: 1200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3523\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.filmshrine.com\/uploads\/2026\/05\/tony-hinchcliffe-george-floyd-1.jpg\" alt=\"George Floyd mural\" width=\"1200\" height=\"630\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.filmshrine.com\/uploads\/2026\/05\/tony-hinchcliffe-george-floyd-1.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/cdn.filmshrine.com\/uploads\/2026\/05\/tony-hinchcliffe-george-floyd-1-1024x538.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/cdn.filmshrine.com\/uploads\/2026\/05\/tony-hinchcliffe-george-floyd-1-768x403.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3523\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Credit: Unsplash\/Munshots<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They also criticised the fact that Hart condoned the joke, saying it\u2019s \u201csad for the culture.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">TMZ was told that Floyd\u2019s family and friends feel like Hart should\u2019ve told Hinchcliffe to avoid the topic altogether, and that they\u2019re \u201cdisgusted\u201d by the comic\u2019s obsession with telling George Floyd jokes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They also reportedly feel Hinchcliffe is a \u201cracist comedian\u201d and are questioning how Hart would feel if the joke was targeted at \u201cone of his friends\u201d if they had died.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During The Roast of Tom Brady in 2024, Hinchcliffe told Rob Gronkowski that he \u201clooked like the final boss in George Floyd the video game,\u201d and he\u2019s also made jokes about Floyd on his podcast, Kill Tony.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cains finished by saying, \u201cWe are trying to rebuild things for our community and make things better in our community.
