The ages of the Wuthering Heights movie’s cast are drastically different to how old their characters are in the actual book. This explains why the characters in the film behave like petulant teenagers (and why the plot can be confusing to follow). Here are all the ages of the Wuthering Heights characters (before and after the time jumps), plus how old the actors really are.<\/p>\n

Erm, how old is Cathy meant to be in Wuthering Heights?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Okay, let’s jump into it. In\u00a0the actual 1847 novel<\/a>, Catherine is six when her father shows up with Heathcliff. She is only 12 when she goes to stay with Edgar and Isabella. Cathy and Edgar get married when she is 17 and he is 21. She\u2019s only 18 when she dies giving birth to her daughter<\/a> (who, unhelpfully, is also called Cathy).<\/p>\n

Margot Robbie<\/a> is 35 in the present day. She was 34 when\u00a0Wuthering Heights<\/a>\u00a0was made. So, for the majority of the Wuthering Heights film, Margot Robbie is literally twice as old as the character she is playing.<\/p>\n

Jacob Elordi is also the wrong age to play Heathcliff<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Heathcliff\u2019s backstory<\/a> is very mysterious in Wuthering Heights. However, you can sus out his age from the dates given in the book. Heathcliff is approximately a year older than Cathy. He runs off from Wuthering Heights when he is 16, and returns about three years later. Heathcliff\u2019s voyage is longer in the film \u2013 he\u2019s apparently gone for five years.<\/p>\n

Jacob Elordi<\/a> acted in Wuthering Heights at 27, and is 28 now. That makes him almost a decade older than Heathcliff should be in the majority of the Wuthering Heights film. In the book, we also see a lot of Heathcliff when he\u2019s in his late 30s \u2013 but the film doesn\u2019t bother with that half of the story.<\/p>\n

There is a huge age gap between Shazad Latif and Edgar<\/strong><\/h2>\n

He\u2019s 37 right now. It makes sense for Edgar to look a bit older than Cathy and Heathcliff. In the book, he\u2019s 21 when he marries her. Shazad Latif is still between 16 and 22 years older than Edgar.<\/p>\n

Alison Oliver could be worse?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Isabella is supposed to be a similar age to Heathcliff and Cathy. The actor, Alison Oliver, is a few weeks older than Jacob Elordi. So, at least those actors have a similar age gap to their characters.<\/p>\n
