Emerald Fennell\u2019s new film is filled with X-rated moments, and now Jacob Elordi, who plays Heathcliff, has revealed what actually inspired the many steamy scenes in Wuthering Heights.<\/p>\n

Ever since the first reactions to the adaptation dropped, loads have been said about how racy the film is. It even received backlash when the trailer was released last year. Some people said, \u201cThis is 50 Shades of Bridgerton<\/a> style distortion of a Bront\u00eb novel.\u201d<\/p>\n

But Jacob Elordi insists none of it came out of nowhere.<\/p>\n

So, what inspired the many explicit scenes in Wuthering Heights?<\/h2>\n

Speaking to USA Today<\/a>, the actor explained that the sexual energy in the film is rooted in Emily Bront\u00eb\u2019s writing itself. \u201cThe movie’s sexual intimations are entirely in the spirit of the novel,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He went on to add, \u201cAny image that comes from Emerald’s head is inspired by that depravity and love and obsession.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to Jacob, the darkness, obsession and intensity that Bront\u00eb wrote into Heathcliff and Catherine\u2019s relationship are what naturally led to those provocative scenes on screen.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re all in the language of what Bront\u00eb was driving at with this book. So it was never really a shock or a reach,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Director Emerald Fennell also made it clear she wasn\u2019t trying to be explicit just for attention. \u201cThings that are sexy often take us by surprise,\u201d she said. \u201cMaybe some people would argue otherwise, but I’m not interested in anything being explicit. I’m interested in making people feel.\u201d<\/p>\n

Margot Robbie also pointed out that what looks incredibly intimate on screen is actually far less glamorous to film. \u201cAudiences forget how many people are on a film set \u2013 there are hundreds of people sometimes,\u201d she said. \u201cEven though something looks like, \u2018Wow, that\u2019s super-intimate! It\u2019s just those two actors there!\u2019 Three feet away, there\u2019s Emerald with an iPad and watching the monitor.\u201d<\/p>\n
