There have now been official calls to remove Snoop Dogg as the headliner of an upcoming event, following backlash over “homophobic” comments he made<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Snoop Dogg recently made comments about gay people in movies – and what he said has been branded \u201chomophobic\u201d by people on Twitter. During a recent appearance on the It\u2019s Giving podcast, Snoop spoke about a trip to the cinema with his grandson. They had been to see the Toy Story spin-off, Lightyear. In the film, there is a scene where one of the female astronauts is seen with her wife and child.<\/p>\n

Snoop said following the scene, his grandson asked: \u201cPapa Snoop, how she have a baby with a woman? She\u2019s a woman.\u201d Snoop then said he’s now “scared to go to the movies.”<\/p>\n

He said:\u00a0\u201cAw sh*t, I didn\u2019t come here for this sh*t, I just came here to watch the goddamn movie. So that\u2019s like f*ck me, I\u2019m scared to go to the movies now, y\u2019all throwing me in the middle of this sh*t that I don\u2019t have an answer for…. it threw me for a loop.”<\/p>\n

He added: “Do we have to show that at that age? They\u2019re going to ask questions. I don\u2019t have the answer.” Snoop’s comments were then called out as “homophobic.”<\/a><\/p>\n

Following this, a Greens Senator has joined calls to remove Snoop Dogg from this year\u2019s AFL Grand Final. As per Rolling Stone<\/a>, he had been confirmed last month as the headliner for the Telstra Pre-Game Entertainment at the 2025 Toyota AFL Grand Final. Previous headliners have included Katy Perry and Robbie Williams.<\/p>\n

The publication has since reported that, in the Senate on Monday (August 25th), Greens Senator Sarah Hanson-Young claimed Snoop\u2019s history of “misogyny and homophobia” should have precluded him from performing at the Grand Final, arguing the AFL should have instead looked towards homegrown talent for the headline slot.<\/p>\n

She referred to him as a “slur merchant” and said: “The AFL is a cultural institution, and cultural institutions like this should be backing the rest of our cultural institutions. Our artists, our musicians, our music industry, right here at home.\u201d<\/p>\n
