I recently learned how more people regret Harry Potter<\/a>-themed tattoos than trans people regret gender-affirming care, and now I’m just cackling like the wickedest witch.<\/p>\n

Harry Potter lovers<\/a> have become the new Disney adults in the last few years, dedicating enormous amounts of time to a film and book franchise with more plot holes than Voldemort has Horcruxes. Still, there’s no denying that for many of us, Harry Potter was a major part of our childhood, and a part that some believe has unfortunately been muddied by JK Rowling’s crusade<\/a> against trans people, her keyboard warrior proclivities, and her own private brigade of Death Eater-esque lackeys.<\/p>\n

It’s hard to enjoy the Harry Potter universe when its creator seemingly forgets the message of her own story, and yet, some still rationalise getting lifelong ink through “separating the art from the artist” and other absolute rubbish like that. It’s pretty depressing, but learning that more people regret their tattoos than gender affirming care does soften the blow a little.<\/p>\n

How many people regret Harry Potter tattoos?<\/h2>\n

Back in September, in what looked to be some kind of wild Hinge prompt, Twitter user Lindy Ford said, \u201cI recently discovered that Harry Potter tattoos have a higher regret rate than gender-affirming surgeries, and that\u2019s very funny.”<\/p>\n

Explaining why she posted the meme, she later told PRIDE<\/a>: “I reposted it because it made me laugh, but also because I think it\u2019s something to think about.<\/p>\n

“With so many surgeries falling under the ‘gender affirmation’ umbrella, like breast augmentation on cis women, I think it would be pretty difficult to prove that those are regretted more than a tacky tattoo.”<\/p>\n

Her tweet amassed over 7.2 million views, and after a little bit of research, it was confirmed to be true. It’s said that 25 per cent of people regret their tattoos, compared with the 1 per cent of trans people who regret gender affirming – and life-saving – surgery.<\/p>\n
