So, Disney\u2019s live-action remake of Snow White<\/a> has finally landed in cinemas, and… well, it\u2019s not exactly the fairytale ending we were hoping for. With the star power of Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen and Rachel Zegler taking on the iconic role of Snow White, there was a lot of hype surrounding this one. But the reviews? Not so much. It looks like the magic didn\u2019t quite make the jump from animation to live-action.<\/p>\n

The reviews are in… and they are harsh<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The verdict from critics is almost unanimous: This remake is a bit of a letdown. Snow White currently sits at a lackluster 46 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes, which is definitely not the glowing reception Disney was hoping for\u200b. Critics have pointed out that while the film tries to put a modern spin on the classic, it ends up feeling hollow and uninspired. Rather than capturing the charm and emotional depth of the 1937 original, this remake seems to be leaning heavily on flashy visuals with little heart to back them up.<\/p>\n

Variety’s<\/a> initial review of Snow White called it a “shining supernova,” but it\u2019s safe to say that the general audience response didn\u2019t quite agree with that glowing description. In fact, many critics have been much less kind, finding the film’s narrative, performances, and CGI-heavy visuals to be far from stellar.<\/p>\n

The Guardian<\/a> took a scathing shot at the remake, describing it as “a film made by people with cartoon dollar signs for eyes and not even the tiniest glimmer of art in their souls.” The review goes on to say that Snow White has “the look of an AI-created migraine,” and calls it “toe-curlingly terrible.” Ouch.<\/p>\n

In its review, Empire Online<\/a> also took aim at the film\u2019s portrayal of the dwarves, calling them “an unholy VFX disaster” that “slow the film to a crawl every time they appear.” The criticism comes in response to the film’s controversial visual effects, which many felt were distracting and detracted from the film’s pacing. The review suggests that the CGI-heavy dwarves only served to hurt the narrative rather than add to the film’s magic.<\/p>\n

The film\u2019s attempt to update Snow White, particularly with its focus on modern themes, hasn\u2019t exactly landed either. Fans have slammed the film’s \u201cwoke<\/a>\u201d elements that feel forced rather than organic.<\/p>\n
