Now, some users are speculating that the timing is particularly interesting.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Even though Roland Emmerich\u2019s sci-fi action film dropped more than two decades ago, it still feels relevant. The disaster at its centre is a series of extreme weather events that usher in climate change and lead to a new ice age.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dennis Quaid stars as paleoclimatologist Jack Hall, who embarks on a dangerous trek to New York City to save his son Sam (<a href=\"https:\/\/thetab.com\/filmshrine\/2026\/08\/14\/heres-a-brutally-honest-ranking-of-all-11-spider-man-movies-including-brand-new-day\/\">Jake Gyllenhaal<\/a>) from the disaster.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Ironic that \u201cThe Day After Tomorrow\u201d is the #1 movie right now on <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/netflix?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@Netflix<\/a>..<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Big Reid (@thebigreidshow) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/thebigreidshow\/status\/2117494611497320734?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">November 3, 2026<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.x.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Even though it only just dropped on <a href=\"https:\/\/thetab.com\/filmshrine\/tag\/netflix\/\">Netflix<\/a> US on November 1, the film is now in first place on the top 10 movies chart in the US.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But that\u2019s not the reason people are talking about The Day After Tomorrow. Instead, they\u2019re talking about the timing of this movie\u2019s newfound popularity and how it arrives as fears of nuclear attacks and an all-out World War Three dominate headlines.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With governments around the world urging citizens to prepare emergency supplies, including food, water and other essentials, some viewers are drawing unsettling parallels between the film\u2019s apocalyptic storyline and the current global climate.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As one X user wrote, \u201cIronic that The Day After Tomorrow is the #1 movie right now on&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Netflix.\u201d Another said, \u201cI guess I&#8217;m gonna watch The Day After Tomorrow again. It fits the current events in every way.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Why is Netflix sending me day after tomorrow now available I never had any messages from them. What are they trying to tell us?\u201d asked a third, while a fourth chimed in, &#8220;I&#8217;m rewatching The Day After Tomorrow and idk man our days might be numbered.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One person even got a notification about the movie\u2019s upcoming release on <a href=\"https:\/\/thetab.com\/filmshrine\/2026\/10\/27\/netflix-viewing-hours-down-prices-rising-prediction-what-this-means-for-subscribers\/\">Netflix<\/a> &#8211; something they claim they\u2019ve never had before.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWhy is Netflix sending me Day After Tomorrow now available, I never had any messages from them. I think we&#8217;re f**ked people Netflix prepping,\u201d they wrote.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Of course, Netflix isn&#8217;t subliminally warning us that the end of the world is nigh. Its depiction of a planet plunged into catastrophe practically overnight might be wildly exaggerated, but the environmental concerns behind it are very real.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This was the conversation being had the last time the movie dropped on Netflix.
