Roger Castillo met Matthew in Los Angeles in 1987, when Matthew was around 17 and still trying to find his feet as an actor. Roger had moved to the city from Miami and was doing odd jobs at the time. They became part of a close group that also included David Pressman and actor Hank Azaria. They regularly spent time at the Formosa Cafe in Los Angeles, where they would talk, joke around and dream about their futures in the entertainment industry.

Roger and David were also there when Matthew’s career began to take off. Roger drove his friend to the first audition for Friends. And David went to the first live taping of Friends. All three of them had been friends since Matthew was only 17 years old.
