VisionQuest has finally revealed more about E.D.I.T.H., Tony Stark\u2019s AI, including the real person behind her name, but why is she so different from the version we met in Spider-Man: Far From Home?<\/p>\n

E.D.I.T.H. is back in the MCU, but she is not quite the same AI we remember from Spider-Man: Far From Home. In VisionQuest<\/a>, the character has a much bigger personality, with a playful side that makes her stand out from Tony Stark\u2019s other AI assistants.<\/p>\n

Played by Emily Hampshire, E.D.I.T.H. is one of several Stark AIs appearing in the Disney+ series. She was first introduced in Spider-Man: Far From Home. Her name stands for \u201cEven Dead, I\u2019m The Hero\u201d, and she is built into a pair of high-tech sunglasses that Tony leaves to Peter Parker.<\/p>\n

Basically, E.D.I.T.H. gives Peter access to Stark technology, including a powerful network of drones. However, handing such a dangerous system to a teenager turns out to be a rather complicated decision.<\/p>\n

In VisionQuest, E.D.I.T.H. appears alongside other AI assistants, including F.R.I.D.A.Y. The series also explores the origins of Stark\u2019s AIs, revealing that they are based on real people.<\/p>\n

Although E.D.I.T.H. is still the AI introduced in Spider-Man: Far From Home, VisionQuest gives her more room to express herself. Emily Hampshire explained that she wanted to understand how the character could develop beyond her original purpose.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Games Radar, she said, \u201cI really needed to find the E.D.I.T.H. we meet in VisionQuest, because the E.D.I.T.H. you meet in Spider-Man: Far From Home, the voice, you would never expect that voice to be the E.D.I.T.H. you meet. And I think, so I’m like, how did that happen?\u201d<\/p>\n

Hampshire then explained, \u201cAnd if you think about it, or at least I thought about it, Tony Stark bottled his energy and put it inside a pair of sunglasses, called her E.D.I.T.H. for \u2018Even Dead, I\u2019m the Hero,\u2019 which is a little Stark\u2019s ego, and she had access to the most dangerous weapons, and he gave her to a teenager.\u201d<\/p>\n

She continued, \u201cSo basically, she\u2019s been trapped in glasses with a teenager for a boss, in a job that is, you\u2019ve got to be very tactical, and if you make one mistake, like, things blow up. So I\u2019m like, what would she be like when she breaks out of these glasses? And that is the E.D.I.T.H. you meet in VisionQuest.\u201d<\/p>\n

As she put it, \u201cShe just wants to have fun, but her idea of fun is blowing things up. And it\u2019s just this like, E.D.I.T.H. in Spider-Man is E.D.I.T.H. at work in her very corporate job, and VisionQuest is like the weekend.\u201d<\/p>\n

Episode 4 reveals that the AIs created by Tony Stark are based on real people, giving E.D.I.T.H. a much more personal connection to her identity. The real Edith Marks was a fighter pilot whose husband died in a plane crash. That revelation makes E.D.I.T.H. question why she was designed to be the fun one when the real woman\u2019s life was shaped by loss.<\/p>\n

Hampshire said she was surprised by the reveal herself, explaining, \u201cI thought that was the most genius thing, because I didn\u2019t know about it until we got the script for it in, you know, when we\u2019re in the fourth month or something. And so it was news to me, and I thought it was so smart because E.D.I.T.H. is the fun one, right? And to have the source of that be from tragedy makes so much sense to me.\u201d<\/p>\n
