There are rumours Frank Ocean is releasing his new album today

It’s going to be called ‘Boys Don’t Cry’

There are claims that after a long anticipated wait, Frank Ocean’s new album will drop today.

He announced last year via his Tumblr – pretty much the only method of communication he uses – that the album will be called Boys Don’t Cry. On 28th February Ocean held a “top secret” VIP listening, from which snippets of the album were leaked to Soundcloud.

The last album Ocean released was Channel Orange in 2012.

The leak was reported by Fuse, who claimed a photographer from the preview event uploaded parts of the album to Soundcloud before they were swiftly removed.

The rumours emerged after on Wednesday 1st June, twitter account @SnatchedBops claimed that the album would “officially” be dropping on Friday 3rd June, leading to hysteria from Ocean fans.

In an interview with The Rolling Stone, James Blake said that Ocean’s new album is “better” than Channel Orange: “You grow, you improve, you nail a new message to the board. He’s had time to mature. It’s really cool to watch.” Ocean contributed to James Blake’s most recent album The Colour in Anything, which was released last month.

Chance the Rapper said the new album is “amazing”. He told NME: “No-one is really able to find Frank when Frank goes away, literally no-one, not just publications. I know he’s away making a masterpiece. I think that Frank is very, very focused on his catalogue. Anything that you hear him on that’s a feature was recorded a long time ago.”

It was thought the album was going to be released in July last year. He released Channel Orange on 4th July 2012, Independence Day in the US. This has led to speculation that he may reserve the same date for Boys Don’t Cry in 2016.
