‘Let it Stormzy’ could be the Christmas banger we all need

The festive mashup of 2015 has landed

Two Newcastle boys have given Dean Martin’s ‘Let it Snow’ the Grime treatment this Christmas, remixing it with Stormzy’s huge song ‘Shut Up’.

George Mayfield, who graduated from Newcastle last year, and Eddy Brown, third year Computer Science, have been remixing Christmas tunes for three years now.

In 2013 they brought us “Mercy Bells” and in 2014 ,“Walking in the Air with Elephants”. This year they treated everyone to “Let it Stormzy”:

George told The Tab: “2015 saw almost everyone jump on the Grime wagon, so it only seemed right that Christmas Bangers followed suit”.

Eddy added: “Especially since Shut Up is going for number one anyway. It just needed a bit more of the holiday spirit mixed in with it”.

Producing the track was harder this year than ever with the boys being at different ends of the country, but they overcame the obstacles. Eddy said: “We just threw the files back and forth until we had something we were both happy with. It wasn’t quite the same with George over in London though”.

George and Eddy have been best friends for over ten years. “Having known each other since key stage three, it was difficult to part ways when I moved to London”, George said, “but we’ve been using this cool thing called ‘the internet’ to keep in touch”.

Eddy said: “Knowing someone since key stage three is a pretty big deal. We could never have imagined this is what we’d be doing now”.

They also remixed Eats Everything, Audion and Tyga’s “Dancing (Again!)” with “The Drummer boy” to create “Drumming (Again!)”. This has reached well over a thousand plays on Soundcloud and has been retweeted by Eats Everything.

“Let it Stormzy” was played out on SubFM last night and has had increasing recognition since it’s release last night. TEDxTottenham has tweeted it and it has received nearly a thousand views.

George said: “We’ve had mixed responses. Obviously it’s not everyone’s cup of eggnog”.

Sadly, the pair won’t get the chance to play the banger in a club. “We aren’t DJing between now and xmas, so we’ll be smashing it out over Christmas dinner instead”.
