Snapchat could start charging to replay photos

At least the new rainbow filters are free

Snapchat may soon start charging us to replay a photo more than once.

In their big new update, they’ve already started charging US users $1 (65p) to replay three snaps.

Usually photos or videos are lost forever after one view but soon we might have to pay for three extra replays to watch friends’ snaps over and over again.

The new version, which came out here yesterday, includes photo lenses, which mean you can send snaps of rainbows coming out of your mouth or triple the size of your eyes.

You can now do this too

In an announcement yesterday, they said: “Today, U.S. Snapchatters can purchase extra Replays, starting at 3 for $0.99.

“You can use a Replay on any Snap you receive, but you can only Replay any Snap once. They’re a little pricey — but time is money! ;)”

It added: “We introduced Replay in Additional Services almost two years ago, and we’ve used it to relive those amazing moments (or the ones we weren’t paying attention to…) just one more time before they disappear.

“We’ve provided one Replay per Snapchatter per day, sometimes frustrating the millions of Snapchatters who receive many daily Snaps deserving of a Replay.

“But then we realized — a Replay is like a compliment! So why stop at just one?”

You could view snaps over and over again, if you want to

Snapchat first introduced the Replay tool in its “Additional Services” settings, where the app puts many of its more hidden features.

But at the moment we can only replay a snap once per day.

Soon we’ll be able to replay as many snaps as we like, with the price starting at $1 (65p) for three replays.

In their blogpost announcing the update, they said “They’re a little pricey – but time is money”.

The update also includes other features, which the company only teased in its announcement as “fun surprises”.

Those include the new “Trophies” feature, which gives people rewards for using the app in certain ways.

The new features can be accessed through a software update from the relevant app store.
