You can now Instagram landscape and portrait photos without resizing

You can now post photos and videos to Instagram in portrait and landscape – instead of their signature square style.

Instagram have announced that it will now be possible to upload different sizes instead of editing them first.

Icons in the left and right bottom corners mean you don’t have to cut off any of your amazing photos anymore

In a statement, Instagram said: “Square format has been and always will be part of who we are. That said, the visual story you’re trying to tell should always come first, and we want to make it simple and fun for you to share moments just the way you want to.”

Previously, users had to use separate apps to format pictures.

The new development allows Instagrammers to simply click the format button in the bottom left corner of the screen when selecting a photo to switch from the signature square to a wider image.

A previous update also let you combine your photos in a collage without needing other apps

Instagram added: “While we’ve historically had separate filters for photos and for videos, all filters will now work on all types of moments. You can also adjust the intensity of filters on videos, too.”

The response to the developments has been largely positive, although some worry it will affect their carefully cultivated Instagram aesthetic.

All that square ready is gonna be useless now

Speaking to The Tab, second year Bristol student Chelsea Sargeant said: “I think it’s great news. I’ll have to upload all my photos again.”
