Corrections and clarifications: Council tax article June 12th

On 12th June, we published an article titled: “Revealed: How SU officers avoid thousands in council tax”.

The story originally claimed SU presidents at Bath, Durham, Hull, KCL, Kent, Lancaster, Lincoln, Manchester, QUB, Royal Holloway, Sheffield, Trinity and Ulster did not pay council tax. This was not true and we apologise for this error.

We are working to understand how this error happened.

Lancaster SU staff told us full time officers were exempt. But contact from full time officers revealed this to not be true.

At Bath, the President is entitled to a council tax exemption as they live in university accommodation.
