Hairy fresher slams This Morning after they cancelled her appearance

A self-professed hairy first year has condemned ITV after they cancelled her appearance on This Morning.

Yasmin Gasimova, who doesn’t shave her legs, armpits or pubes, said the show were more interested in getting someone they could “scrutinise like a freak show”.

But ITV bosses claim it was never confirmed she would be interviewed, even though they did speak to her about it.

The 19-year-old, who studies at Liverpool, said the programme would have been a great platform to help people realise body hair isn’t taboo.

The Computer Science and Philosophy fresher, who has Turkish heritage, said: “ITV This Morning showed interested in my appearing on their show, which I thought would have been a great platform for me to send the message out sociality shouldn’t make women feel self conscious about their body hair.

“Apparently, my position as someone who was still shy about people’s reactions to my body hair, was not ‘extreme’ enough for their show, and they decided to cancel my appearance.

“As if they just wanted someone controversial to continue to scrutinise like a freak show.”

Yasmin, who hasn’t shaved since she was 11, had a phone call with the breakfast programme after she released pictures of her unshaved body on The Tab Liverpool.

Yasmin added: “I just deplore the way so much of mainstream media refuses to engage the public with thoughtful discussion about important social issues.

“This isn’t an armchair-philosopher topic, this is something every woman identifies with, and is important for everyone to understand.”

But This Morning insist although they did consider her for the show, it was never taken any further than an initial interest.

A spokesperson for This Morning told the Mirror: “We speak to many potential contributors on a daily basis and while we did have a conversation with Yasmin, nothing ever proceeded beyond this to being booked or confirmed.”

The fresher has had around 500 messages from men since her pictures went viral.

She only shaves if she’s going on a beach holiday, or if she wants to pull, but Yasmin’s ex – who she was with for three and a half years – reportedly didn’t mind her au naturale look and never asked her to shave.

Yasmin admits she doesn’t shave because it’s too inconvenient to keep on top of her “thick, fast-growing hair”.

She said: “As someone of Turkic origin, I don’t remember ever not having hair.

“In fact, as early as 10, boys were making fun of my moustache and I was trying to shave my noticeably hairy stomach.

“I was never not self-conscious of my hair, but now I embrace it. I stopped caring when I was 11, as having naturally thick, fast-growing hair meant I’d need to waste an hour just to get prickly dots on my legs, which would grow back in a week.

“It’s a huge inconvenience for me, as it never made me feel comfortable, gave me loads of ingrown hairs, and my hairless legs wouldn’t match the rest of my hairy body. So why bother?”
