British girl, 19, raped and robbed in Thai tourist resort

Two Thai men have apparently confessed to the crime

Two Thai men have admitted raping a British teen on holiday at a popular tourist resort.

Local police have arrested two men in the town of Kanchanaburi, west of Bangkok, for the rape of a 19-year-old British backpacker.

The woman spent Monday evening in a restaurant on Nanachart Road with a group of foreign tourists but found herself alone at 1:30am, according to Thai media.

She was approached by two young Thai men on a motorcycle who offered her a lift — but took her to a deserted spot, where they raped and robbed her.

Speaking to The Tab, the Foreign Office confirmed “an incident involving a British national in Thailand” took place early last week.

The two suspects identified on CCTV confessed to the crime, say police.

The teen returned to the UK immediately after the incident.

Police Colonel Weerapong Chernpakdee said: “The woman told police she had been drinking with her friends after dinner at a restaurant.

“About 1.30am, she was outside the restaurant in Kanchanaburi town when a group of motorcyclists offered to give her a lift back to her resort.

“Instead, they took her to a section of jungle in Tamung district, where they raped and robbed her.”

The colonel added the woman said she was left by motorcycle riders at a town market.

The incident comes less than a year after the murder of two grads from UEA grad Hannah Witheridge, 23, and Leeds grad Daniel Miller, 24.

They were found dead on the resort island of Koh Tao after a beach party.

Two Burmese men have been charged with their murders, but their defence lawyers claim their clients are being set up.
