First they gave us Premium for a bargain £4.99 a month. Now, Spotify are offering £5,000 to the society or team that creates the country’s best 30-track playlist.

So get thinking about which bangers best define your society and are guaranteed to get people listening because whichever playlist gets the most followers by March 27th wins the big prize, with 10 runners-up also getting £500 to put towards their society/club. Winners must use the money for the benefit of their whole society, or they can donate it to a charity of their choice.

As if that’s not enough, Spotify are also giving away hundreds of Spotify social packs to any playlist that reaches 50 followers.

WIN £5,000 FOR YOUR SOCIETY OR CLUB

The Sound Clash competition was created in 2014, when over 400 societies from around the UK entered for a chance to win. After a close-fought battle, Oxford Brookes University Rowing Club emerged triumphant, pipping the rowing club from Cardiff University to the main prize. With their winnings, the team bought a brand new boat.

Joseph Guppy was one of the Oxford Brookes rowers and he spoke to The Tab about what winning last year’s competition meant for his club.

“It was a massive achievement for the whole of the rowing team. The whole university got behind the competition, which was great! We had so much fun getting people involved and following our playlist.

“When we found out we won, it was an amazing feeling and it allowed us to purchase a new 8 that went on to win the Temple Challenge Cup at Henley.

WIN £5,000 FOR YOUR SOCIETY OR CLUB

“My advice for anyone attempting to win the Sound Clash this year is to make sure you get your entire team involved in pushing for the win. It makes it so much easier than having one person do all of the work. I can not describe enough how important this competition was for our boat club and how much we benefited in our racing season from the money.”

This year’s competition has already begun, with over 300 societies already entering their perfect playlists and it’s all still to play for. To listen to the current entries and get more information about entering the competition, click here.
