These magic mushrooms will blow your mind

‘They’re probably from another planet’

| UPDATED noad

What would you say if we told you that one day you could live in a house built out of mushrooms?

Brainbox Phillip Ross has dedicated 20 years of his life to fungi, or more accurately to mycelium (ask your science-studying housemate to tell you what it is), and has discovered it can be used for a wide range of everyday uses.

As the video above shows, Philip’s team have been able to use mushrooms to create a material that’s 100 per cent water-, mold-, and fire-resistant, stronger than concrete and made completely from agricultural waste.

Philip said: “Right at the beginning I was like ‘This can be an art material’ and so I wanted to create furniture out of it. That then became ‘I’ll make a building out of this’, then it was like ‘I’ll make a company out of this'”.

Mazda have profiled a series of individuals such as Philip who are going against the grain and are prepared to think differently in order to make the world a better place.

These scientists, entrepreneurs and innovators have let nothing get in their way, and have produced some extremely exciting technological advancements.
