Brace yourselves – it’s about to get very cold

You might even have snow

Chilling winds are set to sweep the country this weekend, with forecasters even predicting snow.

Temperatures will plummet to -10C in Scotland and below zero in the south.

Almost two inches of snow will fall in the north as Britain bears the brunt of an icy blast from Scandinavia due to arrive on Sunday.

The Met Office issued a yellow “be aware” warning for severe weather conditions across the north and Scotland.

Chief forecaster Helen Chivers said: “It will start in the north and gradually move across the UK with up to 20cm (8in) of snow above 400 metres and 5cm  (2in) of snow lower down.”

Only yesterday, officials said Britain was on track for its warmest year since 1659.
