Bumbling St. Andrews captain calls Paxo a whore

Potty mouth docked five points for expletive while whole team lose pride over dodgy red gowns

They might be the third best university in the country, but last night St. Andrews’ reputation was left in tatters last after one contestant swore on University Challenge.

Captain Jamie Perriam, from Edinburgh, blurted out “whore” in response to one of Paxman’s questions.

Jeremy asked: “What short word can mean frost formed from freezing fog and is also an archaic term for a poet?”

Jamie responded with hoar – referring to hoar frost which occurs in valleys and hollows.

The expletive – which was also an incorrect answer – left Paxman unimpressed and cut his team five points.

Their opponents, Trinity College Cambridge, ended up smashing the Scots by 50 points.

St. Andrews scored low fashion points on the night with the host slamming the team’s slouching red gowns, leaving them well and truly defeated.
