It’s the 10th anniversary of High School Musical 2, the defining film of our generation

Troy and Gabriella beat Tony and Michelle, Blair and Chuck and Ryan and Marissa every time

It’s great that everyone has been losing their minds over the 10th anniversary of Brit teen drama Skins, but it’s time to focus on the real highlight of 2017: the 10th anniversary of High School Musical 2.

On August 14, 2007 all of our lives were changed forever. There’s no denying that HSM2 is the cinematic masterpiece of our generation, and should be properly celebrated as such.

You cannot deny the fact that this moment was your sexual awakening

From Troy’s new fake tan

and killer dance moves

To Sharpay redefining the word ‘fabulous’

And making gold metallic pants a thing for a hot sec

To Chad and Ryan’s alleged sexcapade

What else could their clothing swap possibly signify?

And worrying why Troy ever saw Ryan as a potential threat to his relationship

No straight man would ever rock a slightly askew color-coordinated fedora like that

To the most unnecessary bonus scene of all time

And the moment we all ugly cried

Gabriella came back, you guys. She. Came. Back.

From being introduced to every girl’s all-time favorite break-up anthem

To the last day of school becoming even better than it already was

And, most importantly, the firework inducing, rain-soaked kiss we’d all been waiting for…

This movie was an instant classic.

Sorry, Skins fans. Did you really think that doing blow in a warehouse was more relatable than breaking out into song after Spanish class? You’re kidding yourself if you believe that show was the most iconic content to come out of 2007.
